Gunsmithing Surgen and Rem Action inletts

Re: Surgen and Rem Action inletts

The bolt handle on a Surgeon is straight, the remington has a rearward sweep.

There is also a side bolt release which requires a small notching.

Re: Surgen and Rem Action inletts

The most noticible thing will be the area where the bolt release is located on the Surgeon, it will look empty when a Remington is in there. On most stocks this would be easy to fill in and repaint. The other area is that there might need a very small amount taken out around the rear of the bolt notch in the Surgeon stock to accomodate the rearward sweep of the remington bolt, but this is part is fairly minor. If you don't mind the look of the notch, the bolt will be the only area that needs attention. I may not but a stock that was molded in color, but outside of that if it was something that I was willing to paint, it wouldn't disuade me at all to buy a Surgeon stock for a Remmy action...
