Surgeon 591 or Impact 737

In my opinion Surgeon are nice, but they are uncoated.
I have a few that are have been polished and had a DLC finish applied to them, which added $400 to the action price.
I really like them, smooth and never had any issues, I’d really like to compare mine to an Impact at some point.
So I can’t comment on the Impact actions yet, hope to get one this year.
There are a lot of people on here that do own them and they swear by them.

For the price I think you get a better value with the Impact, especially if buying new.
Another big plus is you can buy barrels right from the Impact website, no sending your gun in to have a barrel chambered.

Every now and then there are a few Surgeons that end up on here for a really good price too.
Can’t really go wrong with either, but I’d lean toward the Impact.

Out of the two you are thinking about, Impact all the way, you simply get more for your money....... BUT

I would go for Bighorn TL3 over either the Impact or the Surgeon..... By far the smoothest action I've ever owned, in fact i now own two- since i sold my Surgeon 591....

Savage pre-fits are nice and easy to find or shouldered

Controlled round feed and mechanical eject

$125 interchangeable bolt heads and you have any short action caliber from .223-short mags!

I don't like waiting for the gunsmith so TL3 and pre-fits are the way to go for me. I have an early one in stainless and a newer one thats completely DLC coated and the both are butter smooth and have light bolt lift.

Cheers

I haven't tried a surgeon but currently have two Impact actions in Manner PRS2 stocks and Calvin Elite triggers. They are smooth to cycle and the ability to swap barrels at home was the major selling point. I currently have barrels for 6.5C, 6XC, 22C and .223. Core has barrels on the shelve or you can get your local smith to spin one up without the action so no need to send the rifle off for a new barrel.

Impact is a refined and upgraded surgeon. At the same price it's a no brainer in favor of the impact.

And they come assembled and nitride finish. Last surgeon I bought came bare with a ton of parts I had to assemble. Nothing wrong with it, just extra work you need to do to use it.

This is probably the easiest VS. question I've ever seen. I've personally owned both, and this is hands down, bar none, without question, definitely, 100% go with the Impact. Then start saving money, to find a way to purchase a couple more.

The only problem with going Impact, is figuring what rifles to sell to buy more......

I had a Surgeon and loved it. Never had any issue with feeding or anything else for that matter, but im looking and doing another build soon and Ive narrowed it down to either an Impact or the Lone Peak Arms Fuzion. I hear both run smooth as glass. Only difference I see is the Impact fully DLC Coated and the only the Fuzions bolt is coated, and you can purchase chambered Bartlein barrels direct from Impact in your prefered caliber (which is a huge plus).

FYI.... I’ll probably go Impact. Lol

The latest versions of the Fuzion are being held to such tight tolerances that gunsmiths will be able to spin up shouldered barrels for them without ever seeing the action. Having ready to go barrels is a nice benefit of the Impact, that I agree - as long as the "on the shelf" options meet your criteria. I

For what it's worth, everyone I know who has handled both the Fuzion and the Impact (including a couple of top shelf gunsmiths I've talked to) prefer the Fuzion over the Impact.

Both are undoubtedly great actions, and I know that I would be happy with either. But the Fuzion is an often overlooked great action. There is a lot of hype around the Impact right now (some of it certainly deserved), they did a great job marketing and getting that action in the right hands.

That’s exactly what I’ve been Hearing. I started off thinking Defiance, then started looking at the Curtis Vector but decided I’m not into the whole 60 def bolt throw thing, narrowed it down to got where I’m at now looking at the Impacts and the Fuzions. Honestly, if Fuzions can have the same off the shelf chambered Barrel options that the Impact has then as stupid as it sounds, as good as these actions are, it really just comes down to looks. Do you want a stainless action or a fully DLC’d action. Splitting hairs really. As you said, can’t go wrong with either.

I have a surgeon and its still a good action. They just haven't improved over time. For the same money you can have any one of a number of actions with way more features and benefits. The surgeon I bought a decade ago is the same surgeon you get today.

I ran a Surgeon RSR for several months and it was pretty smooth but since I’ve gotten the Impact it’s super smooth compared to the Surgeon. And when it comes to customer service I’ve asked Tate several questions and he has replied within an hour so that to me is well worth it.
