Im looking to buy a new Surgeon action.

what to buy Steel or SS ? whats the pro's and con's?

The Surgeon actions built pre Jan 09 are they all Steel? Best way to check and see what my other Surgeon actions are made of ?

Anything Surgeon makes is quality. I wouldn't sweat the steel.

+1 It's likely going to be coated with something. If Preston will make it then I have no doubt it'll be just fine.

Are you referring to the SS notation in the group buy? That is for single shot, not stainless steel. All of the actions are produced from the same materials.

the RSR and RLR are STAINLESS STEEL. the other surgeons are not to the best of my knowlege. that is another reason i love the RSR. i dont HAVE to coat it if i dont want to.

Ok other then it not rusting is there any different in the steel vs the Stainless steel actions. like steel is better then stainless for some reason? Are the weight the same ?

I wanted to get a 1086 Long action repeater i love the full rail idea. but i might only have the money for a RLR

I'm told Stainless is more prone to galling. But I still like not having to worry about the inside of the bolt or something getting all rusty on me because it wasn't coated well.

BMG,
I wasn't meaning to bust your balls. Stainless steel crossed my mind for a brief moment when I first looked at the GB. And if it's any consolation, I feel like a dumb ass for commenting that they are made out of the same material when they actually are not. In any case, I am thinking about picking one up myself for a build.
