Guys,

I have been following the below thread and it looks like a .22 lr is the preferred survival round.

Ultimate Survival Caliber

I didn't want to hijack the OP thread, but I would like to see pics of the .22 lr caliber firearms that Hide members would use for survival purposes.

If I had to choose one, I'm not sure if I would want my 10/22 or my Quad. Both shoot lights out, and are very similar in weight (Tactical Solutions barrel on the 10/22 and a tensioned threaded aluminum barrel on the Quad). However, the Quad is noticeably quieter suppressed.

Now let's see some of your .22 rifles that you would use if you were in the scenario presented by the OP in the above thread.

A friend has a brake open over and under rifle in 308 and 12ga it is very versatile shooting no7 7/8oz loads it is good for small birds and game and ten up to solids or 308 for larger animals it realy has every thing covered one gun that could be used in a pinch to shoot bee to buffalo.

I have seen the over/under 410/22 combo that would be pretty effective caliber combo. I dont think you would want the 12/308 for several reasons. One, carrying sufficient amounts of ammo would be impractical (500 22 cartriges weigh similiar to a box of shotgun shells). Second, the firepower of the larger cal's arent needed. I cant really think of anything that a well placed 22 shot and some patients cant do that a 308 can. If self protection was a concern, my thoughts would change.

Not like there will be any Zombies or anything

Sorry no pics . . .

Re: Survival .22 pics

i posted my 22 and 12ga thoughts over there for both survival and "zombie day" reasons.

i've had a .22lr 12guage savage 24 combo rifle, but the weight would be too much, and only 1 shot.

the time tested and proven ruger 10/22 as is - but for a strictly a .22lr survival build, i'd go with the 10/22 with a collapsible / folding stock for compactness, or a ruger charger put in that stock if it'll bolt up http://www.combatstocks.com/ATI_Ruger_10_22_Six_Position_Side_Folding_Collapsible_Stock.cfm
add a simple sling and multiple sling attachments to the stock for carry options.

6 20-30 or more round mags - coupled (saves more space than a drum, easier reloads)

a quick release mag release of some sort.

a rail with a compact optic on it, maybe 3-9 or less ( had a cheapie barska contour scope on an AR15 that seemed to be the "right size") and see thru mounts for iron or flip up sights that will accept AR15 tritium sites, of which would come in pretty handy for a dark engagement if need be, or food gathering in the cloak of darkness.

these are nice too http://www.tech-sights.com/ruger3.htm

in the unneccessary for the task but may be useful gadget dept.: a forward grip for another place to hold it, maybe one of those integrated bipod deals, or one that incorporates a light.

no pictures of a survival 22, as i have the 12 ga. set up for that, with the same features mentioned above except for a laser.
