Rifle Scopes SVD ammo vs. .308 ammo

a SVD or the Romanian version of the dragunov take the 7.62x54r. now these rifles are similar to the American version of the .308. now my question is in a last resort if the 7.62x54r is out and your buddy has two cases still left of his .308 and you are throwing lead down range at some pretty nice targets, would you be able to put the 7.62x51 in there? there is a lot of play on the SVD. Thanks for the help.

Re: SVD ammo vs. .308 ammo

No - the 7.62X54R is a rimmed cartridge and of course the 308 is not. The most similar American round to the 7.62X54R is the 30-30. They will chamber and fire but they will blow and rupture the shoulders.

I don't know why this question is in the optics forum.
