Let's say you're in the field for a hunt and want to use your normal scope during the day. Night time rolls around and you're staying out for 'yotes or hogs or whatever and want to swap out the scope for an ATN X-Sight. For that matter, you could be swapping a long range scope for a LPVO or whatever.

Would it be better to have the optics set in QD mounts or carry something like Fix-it Sticks and use non-QD mounts?

"Buy different optics" is not a welcome response.

Honestly I’d rather carry two guns. One for day setup and one for night setup. How are you going to verify your zero after switching? But if this is the road you want to drive down, definitely fix it sticks and a torque limiter. Although there are some very good QD mounts out there I just prefer having the mounts or rings torqued.

I saw this post and thought I would chim in regarding QD rings. I have a friend who was using vertical split Warne 1" QD rings. One of the levers broke and now he will have to drill and use an Easy Out to remove the broke screw. BTW, "Easy Out" = screw extractor.

@ WNC Seabee, I feel your delima. I have been studying the night vision scenario myself going back and forth with should I get a "clip on", day/night scope or dedicated night vision like a thermal scope. I'm still undecided myself.

I do this all the time for how long I dont remember, mainly gas rifles. I prefer the qd as it's just a bit more convenient. This is for swapping out high mag ffp to lvp sfp optics behind a pvs 30. Have not had any rtz issues with quality mounts. One setup does use nf rings with a rap mount in lieu of a radius and I do use a torque driver for repeatability.

For my ir hunter I just ended up putting together another upper, as stated above.

If your out in the field backpacking it, me personally, my vote goes to a good quality qd mount, just a bit quicker and less fumbling. Either system will work, just, do a few on off test for rtz prior and your gtg.
