hey guys just got my first swfa ss. but i was wondering something i took the scope to my local gun shop to have the eye piece lens cover put on but before i took it down i adjusted the fastfocus to fit my eyesight then took it down when the person put the lenscover on i noticed he was pushing the scopecap on pretty hard now when i turn the fast focus you can feel it grind a little. but the focus does still work i was just wondering if i am just being to paranoid.

First remove the scope cap and see if that fixes it. My guess is you are feeling a bit of the cap rub when you turn your fast focus. Make sure you are focused and leave it alone. You only need to adjust the side focus from this point on because you have the scope focused to YOUR eye with the fast focus.

Re: swfa ss. 10x42 sidefocus

tjrumseyjr,

The ocular or fast focus is a one time focus, set it and forget it. To set it, start with the focus all the way in an aim the scope at the sky and slowly turn the focus until the reticle is crisp and clear. Put the scope down and let your eye rest and repeat until you are sure the reticle is as focused as it is going to be. Put the cover on and don't turn it again.

The reason for aiming at the sky is because there is nothing for your eye to focus on except the reticle. If you aim it with anything in the view you are tempted to try and focus what is in your view instead of the reticle.

Improperly focused scopes are the second most common cause for returns next to adjustments bottomed out and both are not scope malfunctions but are often blamed on scopes.
