Hello, I'm new to long range shooting, I have been lurking and reading, and now putting together my first rifle. I intend to shoot at the range and do some hunting, but mostly target shooting for fun. I would eventually like to compete. I have no delusions of grandeur, but I'd like to eventually work my way out to the 1000 yard mark. For my rifle, I bought a Remington 700 5r 24". So far I have put a Harris bipod on it, bought some snap caps and spend my time snapping in. So I'm now looking at scopes. My budget is $1000. or less. I'm looking at two scopes: the SWFA SS 3-15x42 FFP Mil-Mil, and the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44. I was also looking at the SWFA 10x42. So for what I want to do, which do you recommend. Or is there another scope or scopes I should look at?.

Thanks...

LRSFNG, I have the SWFA and I like it the clicks are very crisp and repeatable you should also look at Vortex Viper series a lot of people here use them and there are treads here about them also. Good Luck on your new purchase.

Honestly the biggest advantage of the Bushnell is the G2 reticle option. In the $1000 range I would be looking to pick up a used 3.5-21 Bushnell DMR with a G2 reticle. I just bought a used one for $990.00. It is a far better optic than either of the two mentioned especially for competition use.
