Switch from 73 eld to 75 bthp

I'm shooting the 73's now in a 20" 1-9 twist. I'd like to switch to the 75 bthp because of the cost difference. You guys think I can stabilize the 75 in the 1-9?

Absolutely - you should have have no issue whatsoever. In fact, the 75 HPBT is shorter than the 73gr ELD which will make it MORE stable...

Are you planning on loading to AR mag length or longer for a bolt gun? I don't believe the the 75gr ELDM's are designed to load at AR mag length (2.260"). They are very similar to the old AMax and need ~2.390" minimum. The 73gr ELDM's are specifically designed to be loaded at AR mag length. Just FYI.

My M700 LTR shoots the 75 Hornady bthp fine. 1/9 twist, 20”long barrel.

Cool. I run both in my bolt gun with the same powder charge. I found the 75's don't like much of a jump, around 0.005"

How did it go substituting 73gr ELDs with the 75r BTHPs?

Have a load set up with the 75gr BTHPs but would be nice if I could load some 73 ELDs instead for hunting purposes.

Bumping my bump.

I had just finished developing a load for the 75gr BTHPs and decided to try loading the 73gr ELDs to the same spec (primers, charge weight, seating depth), changed nothing but the projectile.

Testing today, the 73s were about 30fps faster, lower ES/SD and were similar if not more accurate.
Only loaded 6 rounds but they performed great. Will buy a packet or two and test both projectiles out at distance.

Curious how you got on with the 73's. Any further testing yet? I'm cuurently using the 68gr BTHP, so leaning towards giving the 75's a go, but very interested in how the 73 ELDM's work
