Fieldcraft Synthetic Jute?

Re: Synthetic Jute?

+1 ^^^ (you'll definitely glow) only plus side would be not taking on water when exposed to the elements but on the other hand it won't breathe as well.

If its cheaper i'd go for it as far as practicing bushcraft or paintball. IMHO

Re: Synthetic Jute?

You may want to contact Ghillie Zen about this.

He has had access to some very "special" synthetics for the past year. They address all of the topics mentioned above and several others.

Just because you haven't seen it at Cabela's, doesn't mean there isn't something out there that is better than natural jute or burlap.

Very good point. I've seen Tactical Concealment's production/products firsthand and they have their shit wired tight!!
I didn't think the OP was asking about that level of gear, but I may be mistaken....

Their COBRA hood with sniper sleeves is an amazing piece of kit!

Have you had the chance to use one? If not, how would you know?

I've had a chance to mess with one, and the cobra is an awesome piece of gear. Well made and quite light weight. I liked it so much I'm going to purchase one for myself. I can't comment on the sniper sleeves though.

An unnecessary comment c_bass. Don't talk shit about our pricing until you've actually spoke to us and understand what dictates our prices. I know you value your own opinion, A LOT, but until you have actually dealt with the manufacturing end of the ghillie biz, I'd suggest not taking shots at those that have the experience and get the bigger picture.

The reason for our higher prices is the cost of quality US materials and top notch sewing labor, plus additional payroll, building rent/utilities, t & e, promotions and research for future products.

Not to mention, using the patented method for attaching paracord is not cheap to do. This is the biggest part of our garment cost. The paracord grid applied, must be bar tacked/sewn down at each crosspoint; this is not an easy or quick task, but we know that the end result will be a much stronger attachment base and a longer lasting product. Tactical Concealment's paracord grid base is superior to a netting base in both durability and strength and to us, the extra cost is worth it.

For those that feel the prices are too high, check out the wide grid and ultra-lite models. The wide-grid models use a wider paracord grid which requires much less labor, therefore cutting the cost of the garment signifigantly. The ultra-lites are for the purists and only have foliage bands sewn on. Both model types have the same level of quality and materials at a more affordable price.

If anyone else has concerns about Tactical Concealment's pricing, feel free to contact me and I'll be glad to help get you into a ghillie base that will meet your budget needs.

Re: Synthetic Jute?

Tactical Concealment's products are excellent in my estimation. Not having much to compare it to other than handling some of the cheap nasty stuff a local SO sniper is using. I couldn't believe actual money was paid for that crap.

I have used TC's ghillie kit to build and use a suit for a field craft class that I took early this year. The materials are heavy duty in construction and will likely outlast my career.

I have recently utilized the viper hood in some nasty brush country to great effect. I am very impressed with the product and knowing what I know now I would have paid more and been happy.

FWIW

Re: Synthetic Jute?

Zac, I have 2 quick questions,

Can the sniper sleeves attach to the ultra-lite cobra?

Do you find it easier to attach veg in the paracord grid, or the little bands on the ultra lite gear?

Thanks

Shay

absolutely, I have seen it, tested it and am VERY impressed with its quality. It's a wonderful piece of gear, and I'd suggest it to anyone with disposable income. However, in my opinion, it is not worth $200+ regardless of the build process. I fault no one for trying to capitalize on the profit margin, I do it myself, but I don't get bent out of shape if someone thinks it's to expensive either.
