Small Bore Sniper,

There are a few good places to get them done here on the Hide. Each one has a few differences on price and technique.

I am currently doing Remington 700, Winchester/FN, Howa, Remington 541 .22 lr, Savage Mk11, Ruger Mk77 and most custom actions.

My bolt knob conversions are performed on the lathe where I can dial in the bolt handle (on round handles) and this ensures that the knob that I turn down is actually centered. This is very important on the Savage Mk11, Howa and Winchester/FN.

On a Remington I do the same but then I actually drill out the center and insert a hardened steel machine screw that is epoxied in place. I do this because just about every Remington handle has some kind of cavity inside of it that becomes exposed. This really helps support the weakened handle caused by any conversion that removes metal from the handle.

Re: Tactical Bolt Knob Install

The DD Ross knob is goofily long in my opinion. I thiink they should be attached alittle higher on the handle to make up for this length.
I favor smaller bolt knobs because I have small hands and I can work the bolt fine with the smallest knob out(I think).. my Knubby knob.

Re: Tactical Bolt Knob Install

Try doing some searches if you have not yet. You will see pics of every knob out. I just saw a nice rifle with a DD Ross knob on it. It looked like it was attached higher like I mentioned... looked good.

There's even threads dedicated to bolt knob options.

That's kinda what I'm leaning towards. My handle has an angle on it that I think it would be a good fit attached up high.

Re: Tactical Bolt Knob Install

Looks kinda like it.
Never used a DD Ross knob.

Fancy knurling and grooves dont do a damn thing though. In the heat of the moment, you just need the knob there. And if nothing else on the rifle is fluted or knurled, I think it looks out of place.

Re: Tactical Bolt Knob Install

For the price of getting a badger knob installed you can get a new steel handle and knob installed.

I used Dan, was like $100 for 2 bolts to get done. This is the one on my XCR

Dan is a little out or overspoken, but his work is top notch and turn around time is very good.

I have had the badger knobs before and no real complaint, but for the price you might as well get the better handle.
