<span style="font-weight: bold">How to unscrew a 700 bolt with your shoelace</span>

I went to the range today and some kid was having trouble with what we thought might be his firing pin in a Remington 700. I wasn't sure how to take it down in the field, to my surprise he showed me a great way to take apart the bolt with a shoelace. (This may be a well know technique but I thought I would share it for those, like me, who are still on the bottom of the learning curve.)

On your 700 bolt, look for the chrome 'hook' on the underside:

Hook the nub under your lace:

Pull hard!

After the metal detent disengages, turn the bolt handle...

and as it comes around to the detent again, pull with the lace while turning to unscrew:

And voila, you've done it!

The general here posted up the exact video a while back to show the same. Tie a piece of cord to the bench for the same at home.

Simply screw the firing pin/bolt assembly back together until it hits the detent, then pull the hook with your shoelace and reverse the process. It's simple when you actually do it.

You can do the same thing with a table or anything else that has an edge.

I can't think of that video wthout thinking of that song. Nearly every time I pull the bolts on 700s I think of this video and the music on it. Who is the band and what is the song?

i keep a small loop of 550 in each stock pack for the bolt.

I tried doing this and just punched myself in the nuts......Went down hard. Dr. expects full recovery though.

If your real good, you can pull it back with your laces and put a penny in the little slot on the side of the cocking piece. It will hold it back for you while you run it in and out of the bolt....assuming you have some cents
