When telemarketers call me, I say, at the very beginning of the call, "hey, could you hold on for just a sec?". Then I simply lay the phone down, until I hear the Off the Hook tone...
I figure the longer I tie them up "waiting" for me, the less time they have aggravating the piss out of someone else.

That was funny.
My son used to tell them I was in the gulf, call back in about 6 months.
Better yet put yer 2-3 year olds on the phone they love to talk on the phone & will listen forever.

I tell them my dad recently passed away in a farming accident. It usually works well.
