Saw the railcar Tony one of our pilots lived in when I worked in Talkeetna early on.

That is the Alaska mountain man dream woman. One who can climb and has an airplane!
Met a couple like that up there. Too wild in their youth for me. Spend time hiking, talking, having beers, liking a lot about the gal. Then she is snorting a little coke before heading into the Fairview to see some music. No dice for me. Im too old fashioned.
Most, except a few, carry a gun and hunt. There used to be a difference where most all accepted reality and practicality. I think they have even become pussified.
I ate a lot of breakfasts in that cafe she was in, the Talkeetna Roadhouse and many a $5 burger and beer night for locals in the West Rib Pub attached to Nagely’s.
We wont tell the rest of the stories.......
Made me miss flying through the mountains in everything from a Cub to a Navajo or KingAir.
Lots of 185’s, Beavers, and Otters on skis and floats.

Lady I worked with was a lot like that. Around 7-8 yrs older than me and a serious BF/fiancé or I woulda not stopped trying to date her.
So HOT. In a fit, attractive, can shoot and clean an animal and then pack it in her own Cub to fly it home kinda way. Smart, tough, and very cool. And a darn good pilot
Ran into her when I was married. Still made me say whoa.

Its not the same Talkeetna as it once was. Known as the hippy village now its been cultured.

Kelli was an outstanding pilot, more of the traditional AKn women. Lived across the street from us. It was probably her partner Ann, if I remember.
A buddy and I use to fly up and have lunch at the Lat and fly back on our lunch time.
Pizza delivery use to be one of things. We flew in a habichi and coals to grill up burgers, steaks and such. The smell and everyone came running to our camp, created quite the scene.
If you ever get a chance, fly and hang out with Paul Claus Ultimate Thule. That dood can fly with way better stories.

I will say I got to fly with Doug Geeting once. WOW.....
Also got to fly with Jim Okenek before he couldn't fly and was lucky to get to shoot the breeze and milk some stories out of Mr Hudson of Hudson Air Service, though he was getting pretty serious dementia at the time. His eyes would light up and you could tell he was reliving the memory and it gave him so much joy to tell great flying stories. Cliff was his name but we all called him Sir or Mr Hudson.
Where were you flying out of? My close friends still have a chunk of land across the river out the Petersville road, but that place looks like the standard American suburban sprawl nowadays......

He almost always fell asleep when giving another pilot their check ride....... Sweatpants and velcro shoes..... Not what one expects a legend of an Alaska pilot to be wearing.

Just go do it. Ask for forgiveness afterwards. She will. But, She’ll make you pay for it. Don’t forget the added bonus of makeup sex.......it will happen.....
It’s worth every penny of it. She’ll put on a show now, but guess what ? In 5 or 6 years, when that’s all the (older) kids can talk about, she’ll come around and tell your story for you. At parties. It’s hysterical. I never knew life could be so easy.....

I know. I toured all over that glacier one day while the mechanics fixed a hydraulic on a wheel/ski set up. Used the crapper by the “hut”.

I rode the taxi a few times in the 90s. I remember coming in to Talkeetna from the Kahiltna once with my climbing partners after a long epic followed by a week of bad weather, everyone had lost a lot of weight. It was late and the Lat was closing, so the pilot radioed ahead to keep it open, he said it would be worth their while, and we ate and drank enough to keep his promise. Talkeetna is such a great spot. I'm heading back (getting dragged by an old partner) up to climb Denali one more time next spring.
The slopes to the south east of the hut perfect skiing, well of course in the right conditions but awesome runs. Its worth the nuggets to fly in and crush some turns for a day trip.
We never fly out that hungry, taking a hibachi with some coals and meat. Bacon, burger, pancake, sausage, eggs, we cooked pizza, cinnamon rolls, cookies and one my the favorites a fried bagel. We use a double boiler and cooking bags to bake. Always amazed of what climbers try to eat then get hungry.
