Fieldcraft Tall Grass a Giveaway?

I have had a burning question in my mind recently.

When crawling in tall grass, not only is there a hole created where you are laying, but you also leave a trail where you have crawled.

The image that comes to my mind is crop circles. The board and string they use to lay the grass over.

Essentially, the body is that big crop circle board, leave a trail of mashed grass behind you.

Whats the trick? What do you do about it?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Tall Grass a Giveaway?

Its like anything else. Only take on what you can overcome, or make work for you. When Jim was teaching me about fieldcraft he said a stalk of 100 yards could take hours and I thought "fuck that"! But the reason is because you have to deal with carefully navigating or circumnavigating obstacles which can reveal your position. Blending with your enviroment, not making your enviroment blend with you means avoiding the creation of tells. If the terrain provides no features to use and tall grass is your only option then I would suggest natural trails. Something lives there and has to have a trail, just be another animal.
