I am leaning heavily to getting the SWFA 3-15 scope before time runs out. I am debating what rings and base I want to go with. From my research I have read good things about the Talley Light Weight Aluminum rings that are integral base and ring. However, I know you can't go wrong with a one piece picatinny base with rings either.

What route would you go. The Talley Lightweights are appealing due to the costs. (Keep in mind I just spend a wad of cash on the rifle.) If I went the other route I would probably look at either the Warne, TPS or Talley one piece picatinny base with the Weaver Tactical 6 hole rings.

Other part of the question is with this scope and range in mind, would you put a 0 MOA or a 20 MOA base on it?

FYI - The rifle this would be going on will be a custom Rem 700SA .308 with a #5 Hart barrel in a HS Precision thumbhole sporter stock. It will be used mainly for hunting and some fun/target shooting as well. Ranges will be 100 yds up to about 500 yds.

Almost done in selection process. Thanks for your patience with all my questions.

Okay....I think I am going with the Talley Lightweight Aluminum rings/base. Question is low or medium? Any body know when paired with the SWFA 3-15 on the rifle I described in my original post?

The Talley with the built in bases have a good reputation and Talley is a good manufacture. I know nothing about that scope, but if I were putting a quality scope on a rifle that I had put extra money into I'd go with the Talley Tactical rail and their tactical rings. The rings are unique in that they have "lugs" that fit snugly into the slots of a picatinny, a whole lot better than Weaver.

As far as the base if you really never see shooting past 500 you do not need elevation.

Can anybody provide info on the above or on the talley base and talley rings mentioned in previous post in regards to ring ht.? I think with the scope I'm going with I won't need a 20 MOA base, a 0 MOA base should work for my use.

I think I got it figured out. I ordered the swfa 3-15 which has an approximate outside bell dimension of 50mm or a hair less. The Talley Lightweight Aluminum base/ring has a dimension of 0.600" from receiver to bottom of ring opening. If I take half of the 30mm opening and add the 0.600" then subtract half of the scope bell dimension (25mm). It leaves me with between 6/32" and 7/32" positive. Considering I'll have scope caps on, I think that will work out about right. So I ordered a set from Midway.

The medium Talley Lightweight Aluminum base/rings gave a measurement of 0.500". If I use the same method of math with these I would have less than an 1/8" before putting scope caps on.

Does this sound about right or make sense? Sorry for all the questions. I'm still learning and I appreciate y'all's help very much.
