I know that I can shoot on public lands in NC if the rules don't specifically prohibit it for that particular game land. What isn't clear is when I can do this, or what firearm I can use. I've heard people say that it can only be a firearm appropriate for that hunting season. So that implies that it's only during hunting season, and right now I could only take a shotgun because it's turkey season. If that rule is true, where can I find it written down? It seems rude to shoot my rifle during deer season. I'd scare off the deer.

(PS: sorry if this the wrong forum. Point me to the right one and I'll happily repost.)

North Carolina has some funky rules and regs for shooting on public land. At one point, I believe the state banned it or placed it on hold for a few years due to people not cleanup after themselves. Best advice I ever got was talk to the local Game Warden or Sheriff to see what is or isn’t allowed in the county you want to shoot in.

Thanks. I have heard of people doing that.

I heard that too, but I think it was just one of the game lands in the Eastern part of the state.
