I've never been one to get or even want a tattoo, but it has been suggested to me to get one in rememberence of my best friend who was KIA last month.

I wasn't going to do anything, but the other night my wife mentioned it to me that I should get one in Juniors sake.

My first thought was on my left arm on the inside of my bicep. Dan had his Recon jack in that place once he completed his first tour in his recon batallion.

Would it be appropriate to get one the same place he had his?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think THATS your answer. A tattoo shouldnt be 'suggested' to you. I think it has to be YOUR idea and YOUR want.

Very sorry about your buddy

I personally like tattoos that have special meaning vice the random tattoos that I normally see. As a tribute to a fallen comrade I think it is a fitting. You will always have a story for the rest of your life for your best friend who gave his life that others will remain free. My opinion...

If it's a very special thing to you, think about getting one that looks like a KIA memorial bracelet where you would normally wear one.

If/when it is right, you will know what to get. Don't get one to appease anyone else. They can get their own tattoo. You will know when or even IF it is right for you to get one, and won't have to go onto the internet for advice about it.

I went 50 years without any. My best friend passed 7 years ago and last year I got one in his memory on his death date. The same Tattoo artist that did his work did mine. Very special meaning as I believe all tattoos should be. Let your heart guide you. His initials and the last date he was on earth.

Whatever you do, spend the extra money and travel to a high end shop. It may take months before you get in and it will be a chunk of change but it will be worth it, especially if it's an intricate peice.

Remember, he's a friend and soldier that should be remembered and how well it looks in my opinion will emotionally reflect that. Hope that made sense.

Sorry for your loss, and may he rest in peace, his death was not in vain regardless how anyone feels about the war.

I'm not a tattoo guy but I've worn the KIA bracelet of my fallen friends ever since the engraved bracelets arrived at our AOB. That was almost three years ago, and not a day's gone by that I've taken it off. Do whatever you feel you should, but your way to remember and honor your friend's memory is unique to you.
