Curious about the process. What all should I have ready when I go to apply? How do I get started? All I have is a speeding ticket from 20 years ago and a parking ticket from about two years ago so I think I'm good.
What are the things that I will need to watch out for afterwards? What would cause me to get into addition trouble?

Seriously just put the paperwork and get started, there is a thread in the suppressor section on how long it will take.

They just want their momey they don’t care about you, the same people that will do the tax stamp, let the mass murderer in Parkland buy a shit load of guns, you wont have a problem.

Despite having to do photos and fingerprints now, you should still consider doing a trust.

I second this. A trust does a lot more than make 'em easier to buy (well, not easier anymore) but they do offer more protections and are worth it. Go to a lawyer to get this done, it's not that expensive considering and it's worth it. Caveat Emptor with those DIY trusts.

There are some lawyer sites that sell these trusts that have very good checklists and instructions on how to put it all together so it doesn't get returned. I'd find one. Make sure you use up to date forms, there's probably 3 different ones, you want the updated ones that contain LEO notification, etc.

But yeah, if you have a good dealer they'll also help make sure it's good to go. But it behooves you to know as well because I've had to correct the dealer more than a few times --and I was always right. I also call ATF with ANY questions. Had two corrections (one their fault, one my fault, both done with no extra wait) zero returns.

Find a good dealer who will do the paperwork for you. One that's been in business for awhile. This is not the time to price shop on the internet. Especially for a first purchase. I'm sure it can be done easily, but when you start having issues with your paperwork, you wan't someone with experience guiding/helping you. One you can hold accountable and can easily issue you a refund IF you fail your BGC. Which is doubtful but unknown.
