Re: TC Encore loads

If you want to save yourself a whole lot of cleaning time stay away from Triple 7, Pyrodex,FFg, etc. Blackhorn 209 is a non sugar based propellant that cleans up with Hoppes 9 and a dry patch and 1/3 of the smoke. The only negative is that it is not avaialble in a pellet form. 100 - 110 gns. by volume and a 250 gr. Shockwave or Horn. SST, standard 209 primer (not BP primer) and you will find your sweet spot. If you want to weigh your charges with your reloading scale then use a .7 multipler of the volume charge. In other words, 74.5 gns. (weight) of Blackhorn = 105 gns. by volume. Do a search on the internet and you will see the same results.

Re: TC Encore loads

I shoot a lot of rounds throughout the year as a hobby and after many many rounds and lots of cash the best 100 yard group from my T/C Pro Hunter is 2 Triple Seven Magnum pellets "RED BOX" and a 250 Grain Hornady SST Bullet. It should shoot 1" groups or less at 100 if you clean between each shot and do your part on the trigger.

I've used the white hots which do clean up very easily but I wasn't getting as much velocity as other 50 grain pellets. Keep in mind the Magnum pellets are about 65 grains each and the white hots are only 50. The magnums produce around 1930 FPS and the white hots will usually produce around 1690-1730 FPS. Pyrodex will produce mid 1800's. All muzzle loaders are slightly different so play with various loads to find the best one for YOUR gun.

Re: TC Encore loads

I hunt with a TC Encore 209 x 50. After many years of using Pyrodex and unique cleaning and lubes, I switched to the Blackhorn 209.

Load is 110g of powder, 209 primer, and 250g TC Superglide Shockwave.

Less smoke after the shot, less residue, and the 2 deer I have taken this year ran no more than 15 yards after being hit.

Measuring powder is a minus, but cleaning is a very strong plus.

Re: TC Encore loads

I shoot 112 GRS. Triple seven powder, Winchester Triple seven primers, Precision Rifles Dead Center bullets 195 Grs.

I have done some trigger work that has improved my load developement, these are all cast parts so the have a ridge where the casting lines are, this is what I don't like about Thompson, I took the assembly apart and filed and polished every part that rubbed together. This took my trigger pull from a rough inconsistant 6 lbs down to 2 lbs.

Although loose powder may not be as easy to use, you get a much better burn rate and compaction with it, and you know your bullet depth is the same. Anyone that has ever used pellets knows that when you seat the bullet that SOMETIMES the pellets crack, this leads to the bullet depth never being the same, which is why you get 4,3,2, maybe one inch groups.

Take a little extra time and shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 and you would be amazed what it will do at 2 and 300 yrds.

Re: TC Encore loads

Triple 7 is an extremely hygroscopic powder. So I have sworn off of it. It did shoot very accurately, but just too many problems with moisture and T7.

If you still want to use it I would go with the loose powder. Too many easy ways to slightly crush the pellets, and your accuracy will suffer.

If you really want to stay with the pellets then put a drill stop on your ram rod or range rod when you load your barrel. That way you can not crush the sabots because the drill stop will prevent you from pushing the ram rod down too far.

I use a drill stop on all my ram rods regardless of which powder I shoot. The most critical part of accuracy is pressure. So you need your pressure to be as consistent as possible. And as we all know volume is a main component of pressure. So you want your volume to be as consistent as possible. So by using the drill stop you are seating your powder and bullet to the same spot-thereby keeping your volume consistent. Your groups will improve with a 99 cent drill stop. Knight is bringing out a top grade range rod with this exact concept, except there rod also has a bore guide. Tom.

Re: TC Encore loads

110gr Triple 7 FFG loose powder
250 gr Parker Ballistic Extreme
Remington Kleenbore primer

Shoot it in cold weather, let the barrel sit and cool down between shots. Run wet spit patch between shots

Im my Encore I shot a 3 shot group at 100 yards that you could cover with a nickel!

Re: TC Encore loads

mine will not shoot 250gr bullets straight. 300gr sst lock and loads are its favorite over 3 777 pellets. mine likes to have a brush ran through it one time between shots. if i dont it doesn't effect it much intill shot 6 butif i shoot it with a completly clean it has to have a fouling shot. thats why i use a brush between shots. it cleans it a little but not to much

Re: TC Encore loads

Thats another well brought up subject about cleaning. You really dont want to get them too clean. I spit patch and then a dry one then let the gun cool down. It took me a while to find the load but it really shoots well in it.

Re: TC Encore loads

Two 3-7's and a 300 grn Barnes.
Haven't had any moisture problems.
Also don't have any bullets to show, because of the hole they leave.
In my gun they are VERY tight.

Older Encores recomended 100 grn as max.
Usually run it with the camo composite thumbhole to cut down on weight.(same as turkey gun)

Not sure on 100 yard group size, but most shots are less than half that, and I only get one.(not 5)

As for cleaning, I tried four different things one night, and found that shooters choice copper worked the best.
At the time I didn't have any Butches or Montana extreme.

Hope this helps and happy hunting,

TC
