Re: Teflon affects on accuracy?
granted im no pro but heres my two cents. any time you modify a barrel it will change the performance of the barrel. so the questions that come to mind mind would be. 1. would teflon coating last in a barrel? Personally I dont think so. Even most chrome lined barrels wear out the chrome after so many 1000's of rounds. Teflon coating is applied to guns for the ease of cleaning and its lubricating properties for the actions, which leads me to question two. Do bullets need to be lubricated to travel down the barrel? I dont think lubrication would do anything for accuracy considering that the crown is the last thing the bullet touches as it leaves the barrel, My thought would be that any coatings before the last few thousands of the barrel would not effect accuracy for the better but maybe on the last little bit of contact. That leads me to my next thoughts which is about pressure and velocity. Lubrictaing a barrel would make it easier for the round travel down the bore that redution in friction force, or pressure against the bullet, could reduce the velocity of the the charge. Considering that some gunsmiths are reliably building guns that shoot in the teens without a lubricating coating leads me to believe it could not give you more performance from your gun.
