Hey guys I am looking for any infor from people who have used a Simrad before. I know a guy who is thinking about selling his Simrad Kn200 for a PVS-22. I realize the PVS-22 is the better option but it is a little out of my price range at the moment. He says its a gen 3 unit and he wants $2500. Please educate me on the intricacies of the Simrad units. I tried searching but most of the topics I found were on the mounting ring.

Re: Tell Me about a Simrad

How old is the unit. I have used a KN 253 and KN203 I have used the uns and do not see the huge benefit or performance to equal the simrad. I would check this out 2500 is nothing most units run 12,000

Re: Tell Me about a Simrad

I have used the PVS-22, and have a little experience with the PVS-14. They can be a great advantage when on night missions. Only issue I had was the the resolution was not the best. Which is fine for missions where you don't have a specific target but when you need to know facial features it just was not clear enough. When your talking about night vision $2500 is nothing. As stated above the unit I used cost around $14,000 new. JAA

Re: Tell Me about a Simrad

Well considering SPA/Simrad won't sell to civilians and when you look at the price you are mentioning, I would say it's not exactly his unit to sell, but who knows it could be legit.

We have done a lot of Simrad classes, they use an offset for mounting, which realistically can be ignored if you want. They also have a pass through for operating with the unit mounted but not in use.

in urban situations they are very good, the only real complaint users have is the size and weight, combined with the self inflicted confusion over the offset.

I would be careful, it wouldn't be the first piece of NV sold at a great price to get the buyer in hot water. I would definitely recommend not contacting SPA about it, they will not appreciate it changing hands in this manner.

Yeah Lowlight I was kinda thinking along the same lines as you. I know he isnt ex military or LEO so I am pretty sure it wasnt something he walked off base with but, but I havent really asked where he got it from either. I figured I would grab some intel from people who have used the unit before I started asking a bunch of questions

I have met some people who have purchased stuff legit because of who they are (relations, or whatever) from sources I would have never thought possible!
