We need governments because the average person is a greedy ignorant fool prone to violence and theft. And half of them are worse than that.

The issue is eventually the greedy intelligent fools prone to violence and theft shift over to running the place.

The idea that all government is bad is generally held by people who don’t want to bother others, can take care of themselves, and don’t need constant nagging from an oppressive overlord to even get out of bed in the morning.

It’s a fallacy to assume that’s the majority.

Term limits don’t address an underlying problem of the constant presence of lobbyists and unelected bureaucrats (deep state critters). Having a faster rotating door of elected officials only means they won’t have enough time to really dig into issues surrounding any votes they will be asked to make and will just defer to the swamp and it’s opinions

They all need to carry a copy of the Constitution and BOR and refer to it constantly to help them get the train back on the tracks.

I know this is going to ruffle a lot of feathers but...

There are like 3 people in Washington that give even 2 shits about the constitution. Nobody cares about it except as a token to wave in front of people to get votes. Bringing up the constitution is wasted breath. IMO, Washington is a lost cause and any diktats from there need to be pushed back against as much as possible. Any change should be initiated from a state level at least, preferably even lower from a county level.

I’ve brought this up in a few other threads but imo the only relatively peaceful solution to the divide in this country is to separate. A serious secession discussion needs to be started. It needs to be defended and not backed down from.

I do agree, term limits across the board. Let's not leave out SCOTUS as I we have all recently witnessed, a lifetime appointment is not a good thing. Career criminals politicians was not the intent.
Worse is the administrative or bureaucratic rule. Some agency/board/department makes rule of law without input from WE THE PEOPLE and we must abide. They change these rules without clarification and often the rules are ambiguous to start with. It's my opinion that such rules are anti-constitutional. Eliminate most of these agencies and take away their rule making power.
While we are at it, I'd like to see zero amendments to legislation. A bill is a single item...no more pork.
I'd like to see us stop sending our tax dollars to support foreign governments and such. Cease all aide, except maybe to assist during a time of natural disaster and that should be limited to just a few months at most with a predetermined end date and amount. It shouldn't take long, when combined with no pork, we should be flush.
Institute a flat tax for everyone with no deductions. Your tax filing would be a 3x5 card with room to spare.

I am NOT in support of that at this time but do think We the People, need to do something, anything, to start getting our Gov. to get back on track and doing what they were elected to do.

Election integrity is out of the window now and there aren't any courts that will at least listen to the evidence? Something wrong there.

While I favor term limits, I understand why politicians aren't willing to cut their own throats by imposing term limits. Politicians won't do anything that may reduce their power, their money, their security, even if that is what the majority of the public wants. Politicians will have to be FORCED INTO imposing term limits and making other reforms.

I would favor something that says no politician can hold any more than two elective offices of any kind. Also, after leaving office, they couldn't use their former political position for any kind of financial gain for ten years after they leave office. That would include selling books, lecture tours, being a lobbyist or earning any money as a result of their former political position.

They wouldn't be prohibited from writing books, giving lectures, or doing other things, they just couldn't get money for it. If they want to give free lectures, they could still do so, that would avoid them saying their first amendment rights were restricted.

But I'm not king, and politicians won't vote any of these things into law.

After seeing what happened to Trump, the fact he was President for four years and was unable to gain control of the agencies under his command, I've changed my stance on this topic.

What will happen if we term limit congress is these unelected sbags that are almost impossible to fire will then gain even more power than they already have. Congressmen will then just be puppets paraded around to convince the masses their vote counts. Behind the scenes, though, the establishment trash will collude and conspire to shape policy as dictated to benefit them and those who lobby/bribe them to.

We'd lose Ron Paul and Ted Cruz, whom I have little doubt are alone responsible for holding a lot of anti-gun legislation at bay -- among a litany of other things.

I've seen polls show upwards of 80% of people support these term limits but have yet to see 80% of the people vote these people out. Both can't be true, so there's a different problem that needs fixing and my opinion, given recent events, is that voting is where the system is broken.

Even considering that income, their wealth typically comes immediately following their time in office or is accrued through deals wherein immediate family members seem to benefit greatly. (EG you sign this bill and Uncle Billy's company picks up a new highway project for 70 million or whatever)

Restore states’ rights and manage it from the local level, fuck the Fed. Return to the model of Senators appointed by state Reps instead of elections by popular vote. If you don’t like the outcome then feel free to move.

The House was always meant to be fluid in direct representation of the people, while the Senate was to be the voice of reason with more experience and policy mindedness, but still accountable to the people of the state. At the end of the day, everyone was intended to go back to his (or her or its) day job and not make a career out of politics. What the FF gave us for a foundation for government is amazing. What they clearly missed off is someone living into their 80s!

I’d love to see a time limit on all these EO’s. They should be for short term management, not ruling by executive fiat. Put a 90 day moratorium or sunset clause on them. If Congress can’t get it sorted in that period of time then they expire and that’s it. The Executive branch is there to set policy, not legislate. At least that’s what the Saturday Schoolhouse Rock cartoons taught me forty years ago.
