I have a new (to me) CZ 452 varmint.
The ammo I tested was:
1. Winchester X22LR
2. Winchester Subsonic (X22LLSUBA)
3. Remington Subsonic
4. .22 Thunderbolt
5. Winchester Wildcat .22 High Velocity
6. Remington Golden Bullet
7. Federal Lightning
9. CCI stinger Hypervelocity.
I chose the ammo because it was available locally, and I didn't plan this out long enough to order ammo online.
(Remington golden bullet is to the left)
I ordered a harris bipod, but it won't arrive until Monday, so I rested the front of my gun (handguard, not the barrel) on an ammo box to keep it stable. There was no rear bag, so this is a very unscientific test. I have plenty of experience with firarms, but almost none with scooped rifles. The whole point of this gun is to see if I like precision shooting, and get some practice in. I'll be the first to admit that the weak link in this testing is me.
When I made my first shot it hit to the right by about a foot. (Distance 50 yards, no noticeable wind). I had to adjust the windage of the scope (Leopoud rifleman 3x9) as much to the left as it would go, and it still missed to the right by about 2 inches.
Anywhere, here are the groups. I was still adjusting the scope on target 8, so ignore that one.
Each target is 6 inches. The inner circle is 3 inches, and the square is 1.5 inches. Once again, I'm no expert, so don't read to much into these results. I think number one is the best (2 individual groups), but the number 6 wasn't to far behind.
I'm going to figure out why my scope isn't lined up properly, get a good spotting scope, so I can see to 100 yards, and get a rear bag for stability, and I will redo this test at 100 yards, and try to be a bit more scientific about it.
I'm very happy with the gun, it shoots good, and I'm looking forward to fixing the scope mounting, and getting enough practice. It seems I have found at least 2 brands of ammo (1 and six) that are more accurate than I am, so for now, those brands will do. I'm still looking for some wolf match ammo, so I'll also get some of that when my local gun store gets it in.
So on to the scope. I dropped it off at my local gun store, since I was there anyway. I droped it off about 4:00, and just got a call. Apparently when it was mounted (by the guy that had the rifle before me), that person used .22 rings, when it should have been 11mm, and the rings were not tightened evenly, which was causing the scope to be off. He got it lined up and tightened down evenly, and said it would probably be fine on a .22, but if I move the scope to a higher powered rifle it wouldn't hold 0.
What do you guys think of that. I want it done right, so my first thought is to get the correct rings, but if it won't make a difference, I will save the money.
