Not true, you can kill them with anything you can carry into the field.

Just for clarification...The spear I have used is not one that you would throw...but one that you would thrust once you have the right spot on the pig.

The only way i see a spear working is being throwed out of a tree. I've chased wounded hogs trying to finish them off and they can run. I can only imagine how fast a healthy one is. Now if your using dogs-simple. Like surffshr said, in oklahoma they just stick a knife in their chest. After dogs catch them, they usually grab their back legs, pick them up,flip them on their sides and tie their legs together. At that point you can do anything you want to them. Everyone around here just started throwing them in a wheel barrow and hauling them out alive. The hunting ranches are buying them.

Torkar if you do it without dogs, then kudos to you. Your a badass my friend.
I just watched some of the videos of the easttex guys and was amazed at how badass they thought they were walking up to hogs that are being held down by dogs and sticking them with a knife.
It looked pretty lame to me.

I've been there with another SH member with our bows, and it's a bowhunter's dream. Spotlighting them at night with a bow is even more fun. You can get within 10 yards of them with the flashlight. My buddy actually took one at 10 yards with his 1911.
Pros: It's cheap and you WILL take hogs.
Cons: Kills are going to be about 100 pound critters, so it's not a trophy hunt.
This place is about 45 minutes north of Houston.

I've been hunting that area of Texas for several years. Made friends with the locals and the hunt only costs beer and plane tickets. The guy that got me hooked on tying pork lives on Plum Grove Rd. a few miles from hogwild adventures, there are certainly a shitpile of hogs down there.

Right on Brother. These back woods boys around home are pretty salty when it comes to hog hunting. Deer season stops them due to so many people walking around with guns. When deer season is over the games are back on. They use dogs to bay up the hogs, then they go in bare handed and grab the hog by the back leg and tie it up and drag it out. Bigger the hog, more men it takes. I will not lay my rifle down to pick up a rope and face a 250 lb hog in his world. Its fun to watch though.
