I shot my first muley this past October in Wy (DIY public land) and I've kinda got the bug. I'm looking to gather some info on doing a possible west TX muley hunt for 2019. Free range only, I'm not looking for a high fence feeder hunt. I like boots on the ground and getting after it. Any info would be appreciated, I figured somebody on the hide would have some info. Thanks Fellas

What time of year do you generally have the best success? Are the tags over the counter or is the ranch allotted a certain amount of tags? What is a big mule deer buck for your area?

Mule season starts the day after thanksgiving and goes for 16 days unless the ranch has MLD tags in which their season is longer and they are allotted a specific number. I don’t know the specifics for out of state hunters but as a Texas resident we have 3 tags on our licence 2 that are buck or antlerless and one that is antlerless only. My hunters this year killed a 160 and a 143 but we had a fire in 2012 and are finally starting to recover from that. Before the fire we had some 170-185. And keep in mind this is all low fence deer and we don’t feed or anything so it takes going out and glassing and is a hunt. And to give you perspective I’m in between alpine and fort Davis Texas
