Three Gun Action Challenge at CVRPC
A pistol, shotgun, and rifle match designed to increase your proficiency in acquiring targets quickly and making hits.
The ultimate goal of this match is to make you a better shooter. We also want everyone to have fun while learning.
When: First Saturday every month October through March Sign up begins at 0915, prematch review at 0945, match will begin at 1000.
Where: Catawba Valley Rifle and Pistol Club in Conover, NC. Located a short drive off I40 near Hickory. Club info and directions are located here: www.cvrp.org
Pistols:
- Iron sights only, no electronic sights
- No compensators
- Semi-auto or Revolver
- Any barrel length
- No restrictions on magazine capacity
- Centerfire only
COF:
- Various steel targets including but not limited to: Texas Star, pepper poppers, and various steel plates.
- Various scenarios at match director’s discretion, consisting of 10-15 targets placed at distances from 7-20 yards.
- No paper targets will be offered, all targets will be reactive.
- Reloads may be required at match directors discretion.
- Failure to engage: A 3 second penalty that will be added in the event that a competitor fails to engage a particular target before moving to the
next stage.
- Failure to neutralize: A 5 second penalty that will be added if a competitor fails to hit a particular target before moving to the next stage.
Shotgun:
- Any sight
- Pump or Semi-Auto
- Barrel length 18” minimum, no maximum.
- No maximum magazine capacity.
- Maximum shot size #4 birdshot.
- NO STEEL OR TUNGSTEN SHOT, target damage will not be tolerated.
COF:
- Various steel targets, including but not limited to: Texas Star, pepper poppers, plates and clay pigeons.
- Various scenarios at match directors discretion consisting of between 7-10 targets placed at distances from 7-20 yards.
- 2 shell reload minimum during course of fire: you must fire at least once after you load. You must shoot at least one shot before you reload.
Rifle:
-22lr Semi Auto, mag fed
-Any sight
-No magazine restrictions
COF:
-Various steel targets
-Scenarios per mathc directors discretion, 50yds maximum range
Match Commands: Shooter will be called to the line
- “Shooter make ready”: Shooter may load weapon and make it hot. Proper handling of the weapon is mandatory. The weapon is at this time especially, to be pointed DOWNRANGE. If you do not know how to properly handle a pistol or shotgun please have a range officer instruct you BEFORE the match.
- “shooter ready?”: Shooter will rest weapon on table at the ready (AKA “low ready”)
- “standby”: At this point the RO will press the timer giving you a random tone signal at which you begin to engage the targets in any order you like.
- After all targets are down shooter will clear the weapon and insert OBI and say “clear”. RO will confirm line is clear and target setters will set targets back up.
- The exception will be if more than one gun is fired in a stage, in which case, the weapon will be placed on safe, or cleared. The line will be considered HOT after the completion of the stage, until all weapons are cleared and OBI inserted, until line is called hot again.
Safety:
- OBI is required at all times in all weapons. Pistols may be carried holstered but must be open with OBI and no magazine.
- Eye and ear protection are mandatory, for participants and spectators.
- Competitors participate at their own risk, spectators spectate at their own risk. You may be asked to sign a waiver.
Scoring:
- Competitor will shoot each course 2 times, with the ability to shoot an "option". The option will be a 3rd attempt at the particular course
and is completely the option of the competitor. The 3rd run will automatically stand no matter the outcome. This may change per match director and competitor's discretion(vote).
- Targets must fall to be counted. Unless they are the non falling type. In the case of pigeons, if a target is thrown "broke" the shooter has to engage the broken pieces anyway to avoid a fail to engage penalty, as the target was eliminated it is esentially counted but you must engage.
Fee and Payout:
- Match fee is $10.
- 40% of match fees go to 1st place, aggregate
- 20% of match fees go to 2nd place, aggregate
- 10% of match fees go to 3rd place aggregate
- 30% of match fees go to CVRPC for use of range.
- Winning scores are calculated using your total time for pistol, shotgun, rifle combined.
