I bought a 9L Hornady ultrasonic cleaner a few weeks ago. Unfortunatly after using it twice it started leaking from the bottom of the unit. I called Hornady customer service to see what they could do for me. I spoke with a very nice person (Seth) who told me they would send me a UPS call tag for the return of the unit. He told me that worst case scenerio it would take 4-5 days for them to receive it via UPS then maybe another 4-5 days to diagnose the unit. He told me that they would either repair the unit or replace it once they figured out what the issue was. The day it arrived at Hornady they immediatly sent me a replacement. A few days later the new unit arrived & i was back in business. Excellent customer service on their part! Thanks Seth!!
I decided to try the unit twice prior to writing this up to make sure it didn't start leaking again, no isues this time.
Here is a little review of the 9L unit:
I originally bought their all stainless magnum sonic cleaner. I bought that one to see how well it would work cleaning brakes. It certainly eliminated the bulk of the work cleaning those parts. Brakes were cleaned in about 20 minutes but required some manual scraping to get the rest of the carbon deposits removed. So onto the larger unit, would it clean the brakes better or how about my stainless baffles or large stainless revolvers. The revolvers wouldn't fit in the smaller unit hence the reason to get the larger unit. I tried a few very dirty brakes in the 9L unit. After 20 minutes they were almost spotless & required much less time manually scraping the rest of the carbon out versus the smaller unit. I then tried some stainless baffles, 20 mintes later they were almost completely spotless, requiring only a few minutes with a nylon brush to get the resudual carbon removed. Onto the revolvers; these revolvers are old & i've always had an issue completely cleaning the carbon from the forcing cones. I decided to set the timer for 30 minutes on these dirty revolvers. After 20 minutes i decided to remove one of them & was pleasantly suprised when i saw a completely clean forcing cone. Well after this i decided to try the unit on some dirty 45 brass that was shot out of a supressed pistol. After 20 minutes the brass was completely clean. I normally don't use an ultrasonic cleaner on brass but hey it was fun trying it on a few different items to see what it would do. I used a 60/40 mixture of simple green & distilled water on everything i tested. I use the heating function set to 130 degrees.
I'm very happy with this new Hornady 9L ultrasonic cleaner. Anyone looking to get an ultrasonic cleaner won't be disappointed, especially knowing that if there are any issues Hornady will take care of you. Thanks again Seth for your professional customer service; other compaines can take lessons from you!
