So I've been hearing that WOA SPR barrels arent in true SPR specs and that a common problem found by guys after they get their OPS 12 models is they are gettin only around 2 rotations of thread contact with the brake. So since I have a OPS 12 model sittin in the GAP vault awaiting my 18 year paperwork ordeal I figured I'd take my WOA barreled MK12 MOD-0 into the shop and have a look see with the actual can.
Well George and I put the can on and it in fact only got 2 rotations of threads before being stopped by the collar. In short the .750 step on the barrel was almost a 1/4 inch too long. So George hollers at Flounder and asks if he has the time to turn it down a bit and He says "sure no problem". Flounder is a true wizard at what he does and was awsome to watch, he had it stripped to the barrel in 2.5 seconds and was cuttin it within 5 mins.
He backed the step up that .25 inch and then put the collar back on and discovered that because of backing the step off where it should be the collar was butting against the gas block, so another couple wizardry type moments later and he took a few thousandths off the backside of the collar to where there is a small gap between the collar and gas block. 35 seconds later the gun was back together. mounted the can and counted the rotations, the can has 11 threads and it came to 11 rotations, 100% thread contact!
the point of this thread is 2 fold, firstly and most impotantly is to thank George and Flounder, Everyone there at GAP are true professionals and gentlemen. Flounder is a machining ARTIST and cant thank them enough.
and secondly, if you are building a SPR and plan on using an OPS 12th model be aware of the specific contour needed(talk to Ron at Ops Inc first), food for thought
I'm done humming on the GAP balls but they are just so good.....thanks George and Flounder!
