I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Just silly things really but also a bit profound. Just moments in time that escape all of us and without even giving it a second thought (as the moment passed) that part of our life was gone and we never saw it coming. As an example-

-The last time you tied the shoelaces for your child.

-The last time you had your 'first kiss'

-The last time you spent with your friends in High School

-The last time you spent together with whichever relative that comes to mind

-The last time your spouse shared something with you that nobody else knew

-The last time you had your heart broken by someone

-The last time you saw a piece of art that just completely moved you in a way that you didn't know was even possible.

Etc, Etc, but that's what I'm thinking of tonight. Not sure if anyone else has had similar thoughts.

Appreciate it- that kind of goes with the thought process, when did we become 'old'? I posted another thread about this next point but at some juncture, I just stopped caring/being aware of music. Music was, in my opinion, a generational "glue" that was always something that could be discussed regardless of other societal differences.

    Im on the other side:

-rent just got paid but its due in 30 day

-just fueled up and I know ill need to do it again next week

-knocks on the door are kids looking for some support (selling something, asking for a donation)

-thinking about taking a day off work to go see grandma, she’s not getting any younger

-seeing art and wishing I had a place to put it or the means to commission one for myself

Getting old sucks but so does the journey to financial freedom.

Don’t be too sad @LuckyDuck take the day off and enjoy what you have built!

Tonight I got notice that another old friend passed before being able to visit. 😢. As we age it becomes more frequent.

Reach out even if it is only a phone call. The hole left is big. It is worse for those of us who’s friends are a decade or more older than we are. Cherish these friendships. 😓

You sir are living the high life!

Right now, my highest claim to fame is a ham steak and "Davy Crockett" potatoes cooking on the stove this morning on cast iron pans for breakfast with a very healthy scoop of lard. That alone makes me pretty happy too.

ETA: there's also 2 or 3 cloves of fresh garlic and about a half an onion in the potatoes too.

I wish I could trade you for a day. Maybe a week. I’m sure the perspective would give us both a lot to be greatful for, in both the trade and the return to our lives.

I appreciate your perspective. It makes me greatful for what I have and also for what my future holds

    Great thread!

The last time Maggot posted in the Bear Pit.

The last time LuckyDuck's post didn't remind me of the ole' Maggot Bear Pit posts.

The last time LuckyDuck wasn't Maggot, and Maggot wasn't LuckyDuck.
Also, you've been here for 6+ years don't act like a cuck, you're better than that. You want to call out @Maggot then do it properly.

I don't think I'd be eating any "Davy Crockett" potatoes any more than he did 🤢
If the story is true - who knows 🤷‍♂️
"The potatoes had been cooked by grease from the Indians that the soldiers had burned alive in the house. Crockett described the potatoes as looking like they had been stewed with fat meat, and said he would rather not have eaten them."

In September of 2022, my old high school classmate and friend (after all these years, we live in the same county, again) and I went to our 40 year high school reunion (Class of 1982.) Man, there were a lot of old people there.

I turned 60 this year and could not care less. It really is just a number and I am glad to be free of at least that stress. I used to worry about birthdays on the decade. How old I must be getting, yada, yada, yada.

I am just glad to still have the energy and walk in the woods and trick myself into thinking I will see a deer and all of my practice during the year is going to pay off.

I can still play guitar. I can still sing any song by Boston. From the album recording, mind you.

    Screw that getting old crap.

Yeah my Dad is a Soy kitty estrogen USA diet...
    Perogie incel.

    So annoying.

    I hate old people.

I hate the Demographics of Canada and the U.S. Well maybe just my old city full of old people.

Demographers knew this and never even tried to change anything in the 60s 70s and 80s and 90s.

I don't mean this to come across as a "challenge" to you personally, but I'm going to assume you've been around the block a few times and have some life behind you. Here's what I'm getting at though (with that all said), I'd have to imagine you had a group of friends you did everything with while you were in High School. Your "friends for life" as it were.

If you're anything like me, you shared everything you knew about life with them, planned out your future and how you were going to take on the world. And (also if you're anything like me) maybe 2 months or so after graduation from HS you were all together talking about the same plans and you didn't know it then and probably hadn't given it a second thought for a long while afterwards but that was the last time you were all together. The last time you shared the same thoughts and dreams with your friends of however many years.

You didn't know it at the time, and how could you, but the world changed dramatically and dollars to doughnuts, had you (the proverbial 'you', not you specifically) known that that would be the last time you'd have that experience, you'd likely have done some things differently.

Again nothing against you personally, it's just a wild ride to think about the concept is all.

We used to hang out with the hottest babes in town. Then 90210 happened.

Cheating. Knife fights. Lies. Firearms training. Drugs. GREAT FOOD.

20s were fun. 10s were better. 30s were child rearing. 40s are going to be great!

You remain a bit of an enigma to me on figuring out where you stand and who you are.

Just seems you exist to stir the pot, I'm ok with that if that's who you are/what you want to be too for that matter. Just an odd forum to take that role on is all.
    Speaking of odd ducks.........

    I understand the point.

My hobbies and things I used to enjoy don't really "do it" for me any more. Ive picked up photography of sorts and now love taking pictures of sunsets, sunrises and natural beauty.

Finding joy in the moment is the challenge at times.
