The long wait is a phenomenon that few with LR accuracy interests are unfamiliar with. The wait can be years, so long that, at times, one can only imagine what the day will be like when a given project comes through. A receiver here...a barrel...a stock....a can....finishes....machining....optics...on and on it can go. There is one person's work that is so remarkable that the wait is a given condition, it is the work of Karl Kampfeld. A one man, one rifle at a time shop that has one hell of a following. If one is lucky enough to get on line and get in que and get in process, it is a luxury as the finished product is flawless and shoots like a bandit. If there is better than Karl, well, I have yet to see it. As good? yes, better? no. What we see here is a piece that has been in process for a good long time and well worth the long wait. Yes, Karl is still spiral fluting, yes Karl was doing it long before the patent, no..there is no problem. Karl is the finest kind, if your going to wait...wait for the likes of Karl.
Surgeon 591 SA, Broughton .260 spiral lock threaded and spiral fluted (5C canted, 20", 8tw), 139's in the lands at 2.825 OAL, threaded and capped, bolt recut spiraled, McMillan A-5 (50od-50blk), custom cups, Badger bottom metal and EFR, Jewel, everything od with black relief color in the barrel and bolt fluting. Everything except the mags. One of the few AWC T.H.O.R. XL .260, 100% Ti deep penetration (16.4 oz) that have been let out the door (od).
Still a ways to go, but the heavy lifting is done. Nothing that a torque wrench and drivers won't complete. Optics? No idea yet, bipod will be above axis custom and is in process. All well worth the Long Wait.. 2011 is looking up.
