So, I change cars like underwear, I’m bad with money, and somehow still have zero debt, except for my mortgage....anyway I would have more green stuff if I wasn’t an ADHD kid at heart. I won’t list my past cars I’ve owned, I would probably cry. At any rate, not too long ago I had a 99 jeep wrangler that I traded in my 2004 WRX in black mocha pearl. I still am not forgiving myself for selling that Flatbill hat/Vape wagon. The jeep wrangler ran like new and even the air conditioning worked, 200,000 miles on that in line 6 is nothing. But I have three kids and like to go fishing and camping, that jeep was full with just a 9 mm and a fishing pole LOL. I found some rust issues on the frame to cab mounts, I am a average shade tree mechanic, but rust issues I cannot fix and bother me. So I sold the jeep to a lady in Nebraska who is actually taking it down near my brothers house in Fort Walton Beach Florida, maybe I will see it again? She gave me $10,000 for it. I used that budget for my new to me truck. I wanted something small like a jeep, manual transmission, slightly above average off-road capabilities, I don’t do hard-core rock crawling. And of course what I found was an extinct model from a near extinct company with little to nothing aftermarket support or new replacement parts offered. A smarter man would’ve used his money on a newer style truck with better horsepower and better gas mileage, but hey this is me we are talking about, I am not smart with vehicles.

It has a surprisingly modern for the era engine. It’s an all aluminum dual overhead cam V6. It runs like new, I’m suspecting it’s been replaced? I don’t know, I don’t care, it holds all my camping gear, my children, and rides way better than the jeep ever did, I did forget to mention that I did new springs and shocks with about a 2.5 inch lift and the slightly bigger tires.

The V-6 says it was 200 hp from the factory but at this elevation and as old as it is? No torque for Wyoming headwinds, but it will roll down the freeway at 80 miles an hour without the wind. So I don’t know, it’s definitely not going to get me a speeding ticket. That’s what my company truck or my wife’s turbo BMW is for.

Yes I’m going to replace the sound system, I have some old amplifiers and subwoofers just laying around, I might put a small drawer system in the back, the backseats lay down flat and I could throw a bed roll on top of it And make it my mini camper.

It’s actually a pretty stout little truck, fully boxed frame, not a unibody. Ford 9 inch style rear end with 4.56 gears and Limited slip differential from the factory. Extensive underbody skid plates. I wish they made stuff this simple and rugged today.

I sold a super clean one for 7800 recently, but 275k miles. Some people worry about miles, but with the prober neglect a toyota can have issues at 80k and the proper maintenance 500k is surpassable.

4th gen seem to be the bastard child that gets ignored by high toyota prices, to a degree, i go a v8 awd for 8500. So far i put a lil money into it, but i am under 10k and now has a 3” lift. It tows great(within its ratings) and is nice having power in a toyota. The 250k miles on it doesn’t show other than the driver seat, but thats an upholstery shop fix. Get 20.6 mpg in it as well, which seems high, but mostly freeway driven. When mostly city driven it got 14.5.
