I was in a gas station on Monday and they still had a sign up stating something along the lines of "exact change is appreciated due to shortage."
I asked about it but the teller wasn't sure what was causing it.

President Joe Biden issued an executive order in February on supply chain issues.
In June, the White House unveiled a Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force led by Buttigieg and the secretaries of Commerce and Agriculture “to provide a whole-of-government response to address near-term supply chain challenges … (and) to diagnose problems and surface solutions—large and small, public or private—that could help alleviate bottlenecks and supply constraints.”
On Thursday, Buttigieg held a virtual roundtable on congestion at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports that included the Federal Maritime Commission chair, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and other senior U.S. officials to look at ways of reducing congestion at ports.
“For our economy to fully recover, we now need our vital supply chains to operate smoothly and without avoidable congestion,” Buttigieg said.
Approximately 40% of all containerized freight flowing through the United States arrives or departs through Los Angeles and Long Beach ports.

I went into town again today, second time this week. We have six gas stations, and they were all out of Regular Gas (which includes Mid-Grade), paying $4.50 per gallon for Premium sucks, especially when you don't need the higher grade, but I was running on fumes, and had no choice but to buy it. This is the third time this month that we had gas shortages here. News is reporting that the gas shortages are mostly happening in the big cities.
I'm 20+ miles from a small Town with no Lowes or Home Depot, but we have a small Walmart. To shop elsewhere requires a lot of windshield time. Typically, I have to go to three different places in town to get everything I need. The last couple of months, many things I regularly purchase are not being restocked on the shelves.
Here's a list of things that are hardly, or never in stock. Granted, some of the listed items are brands I prefer over others, so I could go with another brand. However, there are certain items like oil filters, that for some reason, the one type I use has been out of stock for several weeks.
Here's the list of shortages I'm seeing;

The challenge there is to sustain a cow by growing enough feed on an individual's homestead. Besides growing enough food to sustain a family. When a person can successfully grow a vegetable plant in a 5 gallon bucket they are on their way to gardening.... then homesteading.

Went to Home Depot looking for corner protectors (plastic edging for doorways). The web page said they had plenty. Got there and the shelf was empty. Got a saleswoman and she said she knew they were out. I asked why not update the inventory list. She said that's not her job. I asked if she's going to order them. She said the main office sent out a directive denying them the ability to purchase "all plastics", whatever that means.

I understand. The term I have coined is "sprinkling" commodities across America to different retailers (brick and mortar / Internet sales). Suppliers are sending supplies where they can get the largest return on investment ($$$). They are avoiding another "toilet paper shortage" dilemma.. Amazon passes increases on immediately where Home Depot probably bought supplies on the "futures market" with far out delivery dates.
