i hate you guys, everytime i make up my mind on what where my gun fund is going i have to redirect it to a new gun

i think this will be a <span style="font-size: 20pt">HUGE</span> hit, especially in the IDPA relm as a trainer.

i may have to get the matching 9mm and start competeing again - this'll definately lower the price of practice and improve live fire drills - i'm not going to be able to sleep tonight, thanks.

did i mention "BOING"!

it would've been nice though to have the different sized backstrap on the grip like it's big brother, but i think i can live with it, literally.

I handled them at SHOT and was impressed. I plan on picking one of these up when they are available.

They also have a factory threaded barrel and have 12 round mags.

I know no one has shot them yet but was anything said as to a comparison of the Sig .22. I loved that gun until I shot it...Or the lack there of. What Im saying is I hope it doesn't turn out to be another nice looking gun and not have the issues that the Sig does.

ALL 22's are subject to ammo issues. Many times we think our 22 pistol sucks when it is the ammo we are shooting. many manuals printed of late specify what ammo works best in their particular gun.
Not to say the Mosquito didn't have issues but I only know what I've heard and have never fired one.
I think the M&P22 pistol will be a fine one.

I dont have one but my brother does. I took him out to my range and we tried about every type of ammo we could get our hands on. None of the sub-sonic stuff would cycle it. The Walmart bulk packs dont cycle very well. CCI Green Tag seems to work the best with the least amount of problems but there is probably at least 2 FTE's with that per mag. Anyway, sorry to derail the thread. It will be great to see how this does once it hits the market.

The only semi's I've seen that cycle multiple brands of sub-sonic loads were running lighter springs then factory. I don't know if they were aftermarket spring kits or modified factory units.

My MKII seems to cycle the 40gr Aguilla better then most but it's still not 100%. The Kimber 1911 conversion won't cycle them at all. CCI mini mags and Winchester Super Speed RN run like a top.

When my wife sees this M&P it's going to cost me money... Her Pro series is a pistol I was going to buy from a buddy. She shot it with me and then bought it from him before I could. While it is "hers", it's in the safe and I still get to shoot it

. Maybe I can get one of these for her birthday. After all she needs her own .22.

I really didn't like seeing S&W copy the Judge, but hopefully that guy got fired, and some American ingenuity is coming back. *fingers crossed*

I don't.

Now, if they use the basic 1911 design and then improve upon it, great. Aftermarket companies that find weaknesses and address them, awesome. But the ones that just take a set of calipers to one, blueprint it, and crank out clones with no benefit; I don't like that.

Then again, I'm working on half a dozen patents myself, and if someone copied one of those I'd wanna go liberal and sue them out the backside. As an engineer, I'm definitely pro-intellectual rights.

I've noticed that S&W has done a lot of copying and not much inventing recently. (their line of ARs, 22 ARs, the bodyguard 38 copy, the 380 copy, and now this) Stop making what already on the market and sweep it with something new. Don't try to encroach on others market shares that are established, open a new market. I wonder how much intial investment vs market share gained they have for their AR, bodyguard, and now governor lines. Probably a steep ratio.

If you really paid attention you would see innovation in the Governor and other recent introductions. Not just from S&W but other manufacturers as well.

I too look at the 1911 as a true success story in the market. There is only one first in every individual design. The rest give us the choice to buy from more than one company. And it drives competition that keeps pricing in check.

The result of the Governor is from all those wanting S&W to produce a better Judge.

Specs on the Governor. SIX rounds instead of five for the Judge. Plus a whole lot more (like it will also shoot 45ACP, has a front Nite Site standard and is Scandium framed) :

WOW, really? I'm betting you've never designed anything, applied for/been denied/not been denied for a patent, or started/owned a company.

Let's assume, hypothetical situation, you invent something. It's not quite unique enough from the rest of the market to be patentable, or you don't have the investment to patent it early on (multiple thousands of dollars). You get/invest the capital/supply to get this thing to market, and three other companies (from China, Japan, and Mexico), copy your design and start cranking out copies with minor, or even NO changes, for 2/3rds your price.

Wouldn't you be glad your hard work just got cut down, and now "pricing is in check"?

IMHO, invention leads to innovation. While I admire anyone who starts with a clean sheet of paper and comes up with something worthy, I also admire those who say " Wow, that's great!" but then goes about making it better.

Being that ive got a long life of shooting ahead of me I want both an AR and a Handgun. Already decided that i cant afford to feed an AR (Bolt action .223 eats ammo fast enough) so im gonna get me a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 shoot it learn the basics of it then someday upgrade to a true AR-15.

Heck now that i see this little thing I might pick one up (after i become of legal age) and learn how to shoot handguns then upgrade to a center fire caliber.

I just picked up an ISSC M22 and its a great trainer gun too. Its a Glock copy, made in Austria. Cycles most ammo quite reliably. I even got CCI subsonics to work in it, maybe a failure to eject every 20 rounds or so which is more than I can say for almost every other SA .22 I've owned. Despite mixed reviews on the ammo cycling I went ahead and bought it and have been very happy. Mostly I'm shooting bulk blazer through it without a hiccup.

It will be nice when someone actually gets one of these in hand. I've been waiting for a M&P .22 trainer or conversion for my M&P 40. Hopefully these work out good. I have seen else where on the Internet that they are to be made by Walther and people not having very high expectation of them. Also seen where Tactical Solutions is supposed to have a .22 conversion out sometime this summer/year for the M&P, that would make things interesting as well.

Since Taurus has copied nearly everything Smith ever made as well as several other gun manufacturers I would think turn about is fair play.

The M & P 22 will be a huge hit. If I were an M & P guy I would be in the line to get one of these. I just hope S & W improves the crappy trigger from the parent gun.

Looking Good!! Hope it turns out to be a nice trainer and sells well. Popularity leads to good aftermarket barrels and triggers!

The Mosquito is ok (at best) as long as you give it what the manual says, CCI Mini Mag! Even then it is marginally accurate, but it does cycle acceptably.

It would be nice to see more offerings out there.

I hope this is nice. I'm getting a bit burned on 22lr pistols, because they arent holding up to the abuse I dish out.

I truely hope there isnt a single piece of pot metal in this gun. I fucking hate walther for bringing that shitty-ness into the firearms realm and calling it "innovation"
