Im not real savvy on scopes so please be kind. Im in the mist of building a .338 lapua bolt action. I got everything i need, Minus the scope. I dont know enough i guess and the sea of scopes out there is overwhelming. Im looking for clarity out to 1,300yrds, a mil reticle and MOA knobs, i hear about this zero stop that allows you to bottom out at 100yrds. It sounds good but again i dont know much. I just dont wanna go buy one of the big name scopes because its a big name scope. its not a money issue ( i know im gonna spend a ton anyway). its finding the right scope for me and not having to spend $1,500 on a big name scope to find out its not what i wanted. Please help me find the right scope in this sea of anarchy!

If i can be of any assistance with questions, feel free to give me a call, i've mounted up a lot of 338 lapua rifles from pretty much every manufacture out there. speaking of, what rifle are you mounting up?
as for scope options, there are lots of good options out there, personally i like a nightforce 5.5-22 or possible an 8-32 depending on the load your shooting and if there is any cant in your picatinny rail. you can get into the 5.5-22 for a little more than 1500$, and it would certainly give you the adjustment to get out to that distance. do you already have rings, or is that a scope and mounting hardware for 1500$? again let me know if i can help

Any particular reason why you prefer a Mil reticle and MOA knobs? For most applications having the reticle and knob format match could be very useful.

I like the mil reticle for miling target to get range, And i learned of of 1/4 moa knobs, Its what im familiar with when i was taught how to shoot. As for the .338 build its a custom build with a lawton reciever and a krieger barrel. Im not here to make it sound like what im talking about cause im very clueless compared to others out there who have been doing this for a while. if anything sounds funny about what im saying or just dosnt make sense please call me out on it. 99.9% of the people on this site will recommend to get matching turrets and reticle..

It depends.. 1/10 mil is more coarse than 1/8 moa.
As a whole though mils are larger than moa.

If your going to spent 1500 on an optic i would highly recommend getting an Moa/Moa or Mil/Mil scope.. This will make life much easier for you in the long run..

You have to keep doing conversions to go from one to the other.
Say you spot a miss at 1000 yards in the dirt .5 mil right and 2 mils low. What dope do you put on the gun if your turrets are in moa?
It just simplifies everything.

That's a preference. Since I shoot highpower with a .223 and moa knobs (iron sights) I decided that my bolt action .223 should have moa too. I think most of the people on here use mil.

No problem. I'm definitely not the most knowledgeable here either. Most of these guys have been shooting longer than I've been alive (17 years...) so doing some searches would be very beneficial to you. Most of what I do know, which isn't a whole lot, has come from reading here.

Look at the Sightron SIII line of scopes, 8-32x56 mil/mil may be right in your wheelhouse.
I actually run this scope in what you originally wanted, mil reticle with moa knobs, doesn't bother me any.

Everything gets easier with practice.
Look at it this way; you're looking to shoot 1300 yards. You're not going to be using "1 inch at 100 yards" or "1 cm at 100 meters" to help you get hits; you're going to be looking at a piece of paper or a computer program to tell you what adjustments to put on the scope. Frankly, it doesn't matter which adjustment system you go with.
Keep in mind that scopes with matching adjustments and reticle will likely sell for more if you decide you don't like what you bought. Mil/mil scopes do seem to sell for more, but that's probably because in some cases they cost more to begin with.
