I'm looking to drop $1k on a new scope and I have been reading tons of great reviews about the SWFA SS scopes. Does anyone has any experience with the SWFA SS HD 10x42? I want a fixed 10 power mil/mil and I was wondering if I should get the HD and save the $200 or if anyone else has any other scope ideas. It is going to go on a customized savage model 10 .308 in an XLR tactical chassis on a Badger 20moa base, atlas bipods and badger rings. Side note: I have a threaded barrel... Surefire Flash hider? Surefire muzzle break? or just let it be...

I had a SS 10X42 HD on my 22 trainer. I sold it and moved on to something with more power, but I thought it was a good scope. It had a lot of adjustment for it's size, the reticle was not too fine and not too thick, and it always tracked well. While many will advise that clarity is not a consideration, I am picky about glass. I know good clarity with poor tracking, junk internals, etc. does not make sense. However given the chance of a solid well tracking scope with crap glass and a solid well tracking scope with crisp glass, I will take the crisp glass option. Even with the price tag. That all being said, I thought the glass in the 10X HD was hands down the clearest I have ever seen in an $800-class scope. When you add that in with the tracking and solid construction and I liked it. Depending on your use, 10X could certainly be serviceable for a 308.

Good to know, I guess I will be spending that extra cash on some Berger bullets and some Lapua brass then. I just wish the HD model had the side focus like the 10x42m. That would make it a perfect >$1000 scope.
