Hey guys,
I am gradually working my way to ELR with my recently acquired RPR 338LM. I took the rifle hunting this year to assess my set up in the field. Everything seemed to be OK, but as I already knew, my weak point was my bipod (Harris). I have noticed with shooting from the bipod that my rifle seems to be top-heavy and unbalanced, with so much weight being above the bipod. I will soon be ready to buy a big-boy’s bipod and initially looked at atlas for obvious reason, but I got to thinking... why do we mount bipods underneath the handguard on heavy rifles? An atlas would fix the quality problem but not necessarily the balance issue. When I got the rifle it had a cheap UTG bipod that had a leg mounted to the 3 o‘ clock and 9 o’ clock positions of the handguard. Although the bipod was extremely low in quality, it balanced really well while prone. So what about a side or top mounted bipod? I found “The Phoenix bipod” in a search. Looks heavy but I’m looking at heavy in the rear view mirror at this point. I’m curious if anybody has as experience with this bipod or any other solution?
