I’m looking at picking up a thermal clip on in the near future but am unsure which to get. I want the capability to shoot as far as possible but am not sure of the capabilities of commercial thermals in a budget of around $5k. I’ve been looking at the Bering optics super yoter c and the iray rh25 v2. I like the ability to mount the iray to a helmet, but prefer the mounting system of the Bering optics directly to the scope as my primary rifle does not have an nv bridge currently. Are there any other thermals I should be looking at that can clip directly to the scope and can be used on a helmet or do these two have both capabilities?
Thanks in advance

I don’t have a Bering clip on nor one that mounts like that. But if you don’t mount them the exact same way every time there is a zero shift. You have to shift the screen with clip ons to collimate/zero them, that goes for both the super yoter C and rh25. But the rh25 mounts consistently.

I love the rh25 but there are other great clip on out there options too.

For the largest reason, for my use, the S can run a higher magnification with your optic. The NUC on the V1 iRay did weird stuff when helmet mounted upside down. The imagine is noticibly more defined on the S, at my distances, Irays have given me a blob target image and while I don't need a perfect image to shoot a coyote, I don't like a center mass hold..at best.
And yeah, I get it, "buy the best you can afford" does come into play with everything thermal and it wonderful when what you buy does 80% of a more expensive unit but side by side, I sold my rh25 and my rh50r, they went down the road to have the S and got an XRF to finish out with that rig and 2 Nox 35s, and the Voodoo S.
Is it pretty good inside 200 yds, yes, very close in performance when that's the case. It will pick up objects further out too, detection is pretty good, but I have a set of Mergers that do that better too.
I do hope the push to compete with iRay makes other companies update their unit's tech, we see some stellar shit and while the price is high, it will still be the benchmark all other units try to compete against.

Fair enough, I overlooked the 5k price....and the V2 is an improvement as most all newer models are better than the previous versions. It will work for intended purposes without a doubt. I just had my iRay phase is all

If you can stretch your budget a touch over $5k another option is a separate handheld spotter and dedicated thermal weapon sight. This avoid collimation issues and having to switch on the fly.

If you aren't going to spend $$$ on a really high grade clip on, the standalone TWS generally will provide the best image.

An objective mounted unit is not the most repeatable mounting solution for a clip on.

The Voodoo S is truly outstanding and would do everything you want but it is 3x your budget.

Please expand on the reasons the Vodoo S is vastly better. Would like to know more details.

I know it is vastly more expensive, so what does it do to validate the 3 times the cost of the Iray RH25.

I'll be yawr huckleberry !! :D

Yup a lotta of folks love the rh25, even the v1, though especially the v2.

If yawr gonna mostly wear it on your head and your gonna buy all 3 ... so you've got 2 on the shelf ... then I lean towards the 25 ...

But if you want a serious piece of kit that will be more likely to not quit on you while you're out in the wild.

And you don't want a chink unit because the Federalies already banned them on 1 May 24 ... they've just forgot to enforce their bans (yet) ... but if they ever do enforce the bans, then you got no support, so you'll be real glad you got the other 2 on the shelf. :)

And if you're gonna use it as a tiny clipon more often than not, then I lean towards the S ... and for me personally ... I think the S is the best match for my situation.

When I question a few 25 lovers I know ... like stokes and brandon ... they don't answer me about the clipon aspect much ... cause they use it almost exclusively on their heads.

The S is truly collimated ... and that's a big deal for me if I'm using it more as a clipon.

I am surprised the banned aspect of iRay hasn't been more exploited, I read the full article and it steered me back to US thermals. I'm sure Trump will sort it out as it does seem like China wants to play ball since they don't survive without us buying their tech.

Sorry to sidetrack, but I'm with Wigwamitus and it is really nice to move my thermal from gun to gun to gun to helmet without doing anything but turning it on!

Yeah, my biggest worry is about Sum Ting Wong hitting the button one day and blowing me and the unit up. No telling what back doors they have in everything.

Maybe they are in the 8,000 pardons Buck Fiden just handed out. 🤷‍♂️

You can get smoking deals on the AGM StingIR. I would suggest getting a good used one(StingIR or any other mode) as there will be some serious advancements made in helmet thermals in the next 12-48 months that will make current offerings seem silly.
