This is my pals Flir RS32, 35mm thermal he got in last week
We had it at the range last week and sighted it in on both our ARs and saved those settings.
Since he was not able to go I was able to snag it for a field review on one of my spots in NE.
The biggest issue for me was focus since there is no screen focus besides the eye ring which according to the manual is supposed to focus the view, well yes it does, BUT then the reticle is way out of focus. Even when it refreshes it didn't focus.
I also realize this isn't the same platform as a standard optic..
The manual only says for view focus use the eye piece so to me this is useless as I need both in focus as anyone would.
Remember I have not played with this until tonight and just scrolling the menus I see nothing internal for that.
Auto focus?...it didn't do that at all.
So I ended up with a focused reticle and a semi fuzzy screen view.
I was calling and using my Flir PS32 thermal to scan and picked this incoming coyote in 4' tall grasses/hay when I saw her head pop up and out of the grass at about 200 yards then since thermals fail in a hayfield or tall grasses had to think like a coyote and try to figure where it would pop up.
That was easy as she had to jump up over clumps and saw her for a second then disappear when she was lower.
She finally had to pop in the edge of the grasses and at about 140 yards as I already was following her with the RS32 and could identify it was a coyote fired off a round and tthwap she spun like a top and then dropped out of sight in the grasses.
Heck it took 20 minets to finally find her. Tell you what walking in 4' grasses looking with a thermal is about useless as Obama.
I was walking 10' stopping & scanning and that's the only way I finally picked her up and after I changed to black hot.
Overall it worked good except for my field/reticle focusing issues.
Again this was in NE on one of my ranches I have access to, not in WY since thermal & NV cant be used here.
