Rifle Scopes Think I Found The One I Want (finally)

Re: Think I Found The One I Want (finally)

I used that scope for a year and was nothing but pleased with it. I just finished shooting out to 1000 and the scope tracked great but I am a huge fan of the Vortex company and now I just purchased a new PST 4-16x50 today and should be seeing it tomorrow.

Re: Think I Found The One I Want (finally)

I got the 50mm version for $440 shipped from Primary Arms. They price matched optics planet and the coupon for optics planet I found.

I did a review on here on the 50mm version in April.

The glass if very good. I could read the numbers off of my dial master lock at 14x from 40 yards away which is the same as using 20x @ 50 yards.

I have since upgraded to the PST which I would say their optical quality is comparable. If you want/need the 50mm sunshade IM Me, I have an extra laying around that has been used twice.

Re: Think I Found The One I Want (finally)

It is a nice scope with better than decent glass. What are you putting it on top of? I like the scope, but eye relief is short at around 3". I've had no problems with it on top of a .223. On a .308 it isn't bad as long as you don't let the rifle move too much. On a .338 Ultra Mag you really have to watch not to get banged in the head by the scope.

Re: Think I Found The One I Want (finally)

The original Viper scope has been the bread and butter of the Vortex line since Vortex was founded. In five years, we've had like one return on them. It's tough to find a scope in 30mm tube, side focus, mildot, with the quality and features for the money like the Viper series. Now with ArmorTek coatings they are even better. Buy either with confidence, we sell a few more 50mm vs the 44mm, but either is GTG

Wilk, Like I said in that other forum, It is a great scope and I personally don't think you can beat it for the price. I have never been kissed by the scope due to its eye relief and I'm shooting a 308.

Re: Think I Found The One I Want (finally)

I've had one for a while and live the original Viper. The PST's just give you exposed knobs and illumination. They also offer the PST in FFP.

I've hunted with my Viper as well (6.5-20x50mm) and it worked flawlessly even in practical darkness. I could clearly see what more than the Leupold my wife had. The quick zero turrets are also fantastic. They work just as designed. This along with the great warranty also keeps their resale value decent if you decide to sell it later for something more advanced. You won't be unhappy.

Give Scott at Liberty or Mike at CS or SWFA a call. All of the sponsors on here rock and can usually make you a great deal with great customer service.

The PST scopes don't have turret covers. They are "exposed".

The normal older Viper has turret covers. They are nice turrets and still adjustable by hand, just with removable covers.

Great review. I like lots of pics haha. Well I'm gonna go visit rhe bushnell outlet and look around tomorrow before I make my decision but I think I'm gonna order either this viper or a viper PST tomorrow. Was quoted what I think are great prices today (did my shopping) from a snipershide vendor.
