Thinking about building a DPMS pattern 308 and looking for advice

Hey guys,

After fondling my friend's DPMS REPR I got the itch for a DPMS pattern 308. I'd like to build one myself because I can't really shell out a ton of cash for a rifle and scope at the moment but I can get parts here and there.

For you guys who have built them - what uppers/lowers are you using? DPMS lowers are about $275 on Gunbroker but I know that others make DPMS pattern lowers that are cheaper.

Also what brand barrels are you guys using and how do you like them? The DPMS MK12 18" barrel is only $300 but I don't know if there are other better options out there.

Any advice is appreciated!

Palmetto State Armory has stripped uppers and lowers on sale. Seems to be a pretty cheap start on a build.

That's a good price. I was going to suggest Aero precision but they're $180

I have a Noveske 18" barrel and I like it. I don't have any others to compare it against though... so I can't say it's worth the $525 or not but I like it. It performs well for me.

I used a tactical machining billet set and a Lilja barrel. Good stuff.
