Anyone have intel on Thompson Cigars? I am just starting out, and have placed an order with them. However, I've noticed more than a few negative remarks concerning customer experience.

Re: Thompson Cigar

I have ordered from them on 2 occasions, and on both the cigars were clearly not stored properly before they got to me, or their trip to me crossed the sahara desert. calls to their CS went answered and i was lip serviced to death but never any resolution. find a good local small cigar shop and support your local store. it's worth the extra $1/stick.

Re: Thompson Cigar

That's seems par for the course as far as reviews go. I'll hope that this transaction turns out ok (or if customer service would answer their telephone, I'd refund my money) but looks like I'll chalk this one up and check out Cigars International. No realistic local option.

Thanks guys.

Re: Thompson Cigar

cigar.com is pretty good as well. I just do the cigar of the month club and get an assortment sent to me. The price isn't too bad and I get to try some excellent cigars.

Re: Thompson Cigar

I order from CI once a month and have never had a issue with them. Never ordered from thompson and a friend told me not to he had several issues in the past with them.
I recommend Ci and if just starting look through their samplers and get a good mix and find what you like. I like the Cohiba red dot in a rebusto, Man O War Ruination and Virtue, Olivia G series in a rebusto, CAO Soprano Assoc. is also very good.
Just finished a Alec Bradley prensado very good cigar was last yrs. cigar of the yr.

Re: Thompson Cigar

They are headquartered less than 3 miles from me yet I no longer bother with them. Over priced and indifferent to cultivating a regular client base.

There is a lot of bullshit in the cigar industry with jargon and horse shit blathered about to sell what is often absurdly expensive dog shit with a name brand. Yet if it burns like a rubber fire it must be you, not the product...

A trustworthy vendor who appreciates repeat business is your best assurance of obtaining quality cigars at a fair price. Thompson's business model is based on mail order customers who, if displeased, won't show up in their retail store and bitch them out.

Re: Thompson Cigar

I personally order from Cigarbid.com, it's like ebay for cigars. Never had a problem other than when they used DHL as one of their shippers about 5 years ago, but they stopped that real quick.

Re: Thompson Cigar

JR's is a good one to look at as well. They seem to want to keep their customers happy. But in reality find a vendor near you the face to face service is usually worth it since you get good recommendations and on occassions free cigars.

There was a guy who was great in the biz, but he got all Distorted and Discombobulated. One day, he just May open back up again.

Many here are hoping. Myself, I quit some years ago. Doesn't mean that the yearnin' ain't there though.

Re: Thompson Cigar

Thought I might take a chance to relay my experience now that the deal is done and a few cigars smoked. Firstly, it took a week and two days to ship from Florida to Iowa. Not terrible, considering there was a weekend in there. However, it is far above the quoted 4 day shipping schedule posted by UPS. Upon the package arrival, everything was fairly well packaged, single cigars in zippered bag and the full cigar box was sealed in plastic. The humidor I ordered was in a separate box inside the package. The cigars were all slightly dry, but a few days in the humidor now have seemed to sorted that. As to the borderline harassment from their customer service: they called me three times following my delivery - each time I ignored the call, but they seemed to have given up as I haven't gotten a call from them since.

Nothing too bad, no funny charges on my CC bill, no "lost" orders, and no damaged shipment. But worse yet is that there was nothing remarkably good about ordering either. I am not looking for or expecting freebies or handouts, there was just nothing there that was appreciative of my business, or any attempt to pursuade to order from them in the future. Just, "here's the stuff you wanted." I did sign up on their email list and they send me an email every couple of days with some kind of deal, but so does Cigars International. After browsing, I think CI will be my go to place in the future.

And we miss him too. I agree with going to a local cigar shop, support a local business it will be worth the extra money to build a relationship with someone who has the same interest as you, and once they see what you like they would probably try to keep them in stock.
