The doves have basicly bailed out of here. From 2 days ago until today it's like someone flipped a switch. Was out most of today, and only saw 9 birds, 3 presented a shot, and 2 in the bag.
Went out with three friends on Saturday and shot dove in my grandparents back yard (they live on a farm.) Only had 9 birds against our limit out of the 96 that we killed. The eurasian collared dove have us covered up and no limit.
Those eurasians are all over town here, but don't see any of them out of town. If we find them out of town there is no limit, and no license required as they aren't a recognized game bird. Those little suckers stick around town all year.
Yeah well they haven't made it down here yet. Buddy and I got lucky that a friend plowed a field a few days before 9/1 opener and we both limited - although we got caught in a heavy downpour toward the end of the hunt. Nothing like sitting there soaked for 45 minutes.
Most birds seen since that day was 6. Even our local birds are hiding. Nothing on 5 different usual hotspots.
