Just wondering what you guys think about ARD's? I am thinking to get one for my NF NXS so I don't need to use the sun shade. I've read a couple good reviews for the ARD for my NF and the description on the web site says its like having a 7" sunshade? Thoughts?

Re: Thought's on ARD's

ARDs lower the amount of available light that enters the scope, as well as diminish resolution. Whether either of these matter in your particular application is arguable.

I'd prefer a shade anytime for any normal civilian situation.

Re: Thought's on ARD's

Despite what Aries said... no matter the quality of an ARD, i'm pretty certain there will be a loss of light... while not noticeable during daytime with a 56mm objective, i'm pretty sure you'd notice it on say a 42mm objective at dusk.

I'm not entirely certain about the loss of resolution... i just know the tenabraex ARDs ive used... there was an obvious and big loss of resolution and contrast.

The way glass focuses... and since the honeycomb is at the front of the lens group... it really might not cause resolution degradation if the ARD is properly designed... well perceptible resolution anyhow.

Re: Thought's on ARD's

Hmm... one of these days i should get all my scopes and run a light meter through them to see the difference in available light... then take ARDs and see what changed.

Of course... it'll probably never happen. :p Way too nerdy... rather go shooting
