Rifle Scopes Thoughts on Athlon Midas TAC for 600 yd hunting rig

I'm putting together a new rifle that will primarily be used for hunting. I'll also (fairly) regularly put it on steel just to make sure I put time in with it. In this case I don't intend to take it any further than 600 yds. I was looking at a few different options including the Athlon Midas TAC. Noticed that CameraLand has the Athlon scopes on sale, so it might be a good time to get that out of the way. I was originally thinking 4-16x44, but it looks like I wouldn't be taking much of a hit on price/size/weight to jump to the 6-24x50.

I'm looking for opinions from people that own and shoot that scope out to at least 600 yds. Pros/Cons? Love it/Hate it? Just want to get some more outside info before I make a final decision.

I got one. Took me 3 trips back to athlon to get one that worked..... but besides that it’s been okay. IMO reticle is way too thin for a hunting scope, especially without illumination.

It’s going on a rimfire for me.

I've use this scope and it has performed well. I would not hesitate to use if out to 600yds. It dials well and repeats well.
If you ware planning to use it for hunting you should be aware the reticle gets really small when on the lowest power setting. For this reason I like to use a 2nd focal plane for hunting. 4-16x will get the job done really easy at 600yds.

I shoot a 6-24 TAC out to 800 yards on a .22-250 quite easily. As others have stated the reticle will be small at lower powers, but 600 is a cake walk for that scope. It tracks dead on in my experience. I think they are one of the best values at that price point and would not hesitate to get one.

FOV or mag... Which one do I care about most...

For hunting and max 600yd shooting. 4-16x is plenty of magnification. You'll appreciate the FOV while hunting and 10x or 12x at 600yds is very do-able. I do most of my range shooting on 12-14x. A general rule of thumb for max nification needed it Yardage/100. 600/100 is 6x needed. More than that is bonus.

The current TAC 4-16 I don't recommend as a hunting scope. No illume and the already very thin reticle gets very hard to see on lower magnification.

I prefer less than 6x on the low end so I wouldn't want to use the TAC 6-24 either.

I'd go for the Ares BTR Gen2 2.5-15x50 because the reticle can be seen on lower magnification.
