Thoughts on Kel-Tec SU16C as emergency bugout gun?

I have access to a variety of semiauto platforms that vary from as heavy as an almost new HK91 in 308 to a Kel-Tec SU16 which will almost fit in some range bags. I know it is not a do-all end-all AR platform but what I have experienced with the one I have fitted with a Bushnell Holo-sight- it shoots great, is very accurate (loves WW 60gr Nosler Partition LE Ranger), is much lighter than just about anything around. A Mini14 in .223 w/ folding stock is also in play, wearing an Eotech, rails and tact lights but is is heavier. My gunsmith checked out the SU16C w/the tactical forend mounting a tac-light on a 45 degree Rail+the Holosight and was duly impressed with as "a very good truck gun". Comments, please

Yes, I agree. It uses a gas piston system so it is fairly reliable. Light too and takes regular AR magazines.

Its barrel is fairly thin so if you shoot too many rounds too quickly, it will get very hot and then the Zytel body will start softening. Not a battle rifle obviously but good for the types of encounter you stated above.

I have the PLR-16 (handgun version of SU-16) and I'm able to shoot with equal accuracy with the 16" AR's at the rifle range with it.

I prefer a basic AR due to parts commonality - if it's your bug-out gun then you won't have access to parts unless you have a brought along other parts with you (or better yet two AR rifles that are exactly the same). What are other folks around you going to be carrying?? What if yours breaks? I'd like to think that a standard gas impingement AR is what you'll see most often. Mags, ammo etc. I try to stay with something as common as possible but still remain a with something reliable.

In a perfect bug-out world everyone would carry an underfolding AK and 7.62x39 ammo would grow from the trees. This comes from a reliability & low maintenance viewpoint.
