Thoughts on SCAR/ACR's??

Re: Thoughts on SCAR/ACR's??

If I was JUST into shooing 5.56 I would get one but there are too many other rifles and uppers out there that interest me. For the $$$$ I can buy a couple other rifles or uppers and still have cash leftover. That said, when I had cash last year from selling most of my guns and ammo, I would of bought the SCAR IF they sold at retail cost.

Re: Thoughts on SCAR/ACR's??

I love my SCAR and have an ACR on the way. The SCARs charging handle moves with the bolt during fire which I dont like and the barrel is certainly not quick change like the ACR.

However, the barrel of the SCAR is more desirable with a 1/7 and chrome lined.

If bushmaster would have made an equal quality barrel, with no "basic configuration" and just had the one config with the folding stock, I think they would have had a winner.

Oh yea, the price of both is messed up. I had to buy a factory flawed SCAR to be able to afford it.

Re: Thoughts on SCAR/ACR's??

I'd be tempted to get a SCAR 17 (.308) if they gave it more real estate on the front rail (like the SSR concept rifle). It's a shame it doesn’t take the .308 PMAGs either.

The SCAR 16 is nice and light but from what I've gathered the stock needs to be beefed up and the easy to change barrel system is worthless right now as FN isn't selling any spare barrels.

The ACR I was really excited about until it arrived overpriced and overweight. I'll let other people pay two grand to beta test it and might consider it when more options are available, the bugs are worked out and it's lost some weight.

The Massoud concept still holds my interest and I hope it continues to be developed.

Bottom line for me is all these next generation rifles need to go back in the oven to bake a little longer. In the meantime the AR market is flooded with quality options at very reasonable prices (For the price of a SCAR or ACR you can get a nice AR, a spare complete upper in 6.8spc, AND a decent AK and still have money left over for mags and ammo, that’s versatility).

Re: Thoughts on SCAR/ACR's??

Thanks guys, have several AR's been real happy with them, but I'm always looking. I guess the piston driven craze has me doing at least that much. I'm not totally sold yet, I have no issues with my AR's. They have been solid weapons for me. I did think the SCAR's were a tad heavy. Maybe I'll wait a bit

Re: Thoughts on SCAR/ACR's??

I have a SIG 556, Ruger SR 556, Colt 6920 and the SCAR 16s. In spite of the higher price it's my favorite, I have no problems with the stock as it is and the rifle is exceptionally accurate.

Isn't the EMag made for the SCAR, SA80, 416, ARX-180 etc....?

Actually most of my 30rd pmags work and all of my 20rd pmags work in my SCAR.

The ACR is not very impressive. I don't see how it is worth the money... The SCAR is almost in the same boat. Being an engineered piston system is nice but it really isn't standing out from most tricked out ARs. Hopefully FN will hurry up and offer barrels and get the 17 on the market. I am more excited about a piston 308 that is ergonomic and reliable.

Bold statement. Have you shot the ACR? I have shot both the SCAR and ACR. I ended up with the ACR for its accessories and ease of changing them out. The SCAR feels top heavy and sits high, its recoil cycle was slow and made for poor handling.

my vote goes to the ACR

I have shot more than one ACR. I have had several opportunities to purchase an ACR at a decent price and I am going to hold off. The just are not worth the money. I am not overly impressed with the SCAR either but the price has been better for a rifle that is tested and adopted by the military. When the ACR is available for $1500 in FDE I will pick one up.
