Re: Thread a CZ 452 Varmint for a can ?
I got my CZ back today. It took nine days total and cost $60+s/h both ways (about $15 w/del. confirmation). I'll to get some pics up this weekend. The work is top notch.
He threaded it a little farther than my other 1/2X28 rimfires. The Tac. Sol. uppers and another 10/22 I have are threaded about 7/16 of an inch back from the muzzle. Aaron threads his about 9/16. I started to panic when I couldn't get my can all the way on the threads. I had a gap between the face at the base of the threads and the end of the can. I called him to ask what was wrong and he told me to check the depth to the baffles. Sure enough, there's nothing to hit for about an inch from the end of the can to the first baffle. The shorter threads of my other barrels allowed for lead and debris to build up in the threads. A little CLP and putting the can on/off a couple times cleaned them out. It fits like a glove. The thread protector is a knurled piece like he described that is just a hair bigger than the o.d. of the barrel and extends about 1/16 past the crown.
Looking back, the problem is obvious and I feel like a dumbass for not checking that myself before calling him. He didn't mind and wanted to stay on the phone with me to make sure that was the problem and that everything worked out.
