I don't think the brake that came with my VTR is doing anything. I'm thinking of cutting it off and threading it 5/8-24 for a real brake. Has anyone done this? Pictures?
I have never seen it. Anyhow, I think you may be just as productive letting your smith play with drilling new ports...but I'll bet it is doing something as-is.
I had a brake put on my VTR last year. However, it came with no brake on it originally. It was a 26" model. When my smith threaded it, the barrel wasnt even round. It was more.... egg shaped.
you can barely see it in the pic.. but its the only one I have
dpreston, that brake looks like it should be on there. It makes that barrel look good. Any way you could snap a closer pic of just the end? How well does it transition from the round brake back to the barrel?
I had my buddy cut and thread my VTR to 5/8x24. I just put a round thread protector on it. It might be an acquired taste but after 5 minutes I stopped noticing it.
