I have a friend who is a machinist that I have been leaning on to teach me some skills. (Just in case this whole IT /computer thing is a fad and I need to fall back on a real job)
Yesterday, after several practices on a take off barrel from the scrap pile at a local gunshop, I threaded my 40-XB barrel 1/2x28 so I could mount my SWR Spectre suppressor.
While a bit nerve wracking, it came out great, and we've now done 3 production barrels so far, mine and two friends' .308's threaded 5/8x24. Given how long it takes me to thread one (let alone dial it in) I can't see how anyone makes money doing this, but it is fun.
40-XB with Spectre: (almost looks like just an exceptionally long barrel)
Finally had a chance to really put some rounds through the can on this rifle, and to say I am pleased would be an under statement.
Got a vid of both a hit and a miss filmed with my iPhone through the scope. Not the best quality (hard to hold the camera and look at that screen, and aim), but the sound is pretty close to reality. The steel hit was at least as loud as the firing pin dropping.
